Summary of Position

The Salvation Army Northern Division Grand Rapids is hiring a Social Services Coordinator I. The Social Services Coordinator I (SSC I) provides emergency social services in assigned counties. The SSC I will also be responsible to provide HeatShare or oversee the Food Shelf daily operations, including volunteer oversight. This is a regular position that is located in Grand Rapids, MN.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage all community members in a way that brings them to the Corps for programming, events, and Pathway of Hope.
  • Be knowledgeable of all Salvation Army Social Service and Corps programs.
  • Determine client eligibility, provide supportive services, and actively refer clients to relevant programs.
  • Provide all aspects of direct client services, e.g., including financial assistance, home visits, crisis intervention, and referrals.
  • Maintain accurate client records and regularly review.
  • Ensure volunteer screening and training requirements are met, supervise volunteers, and manage ongoing volunteer hour tracking.
  • Assist with fundraising events, including volunteer supervision, planning, and logistics, as assigned.
  • Represent and promote The Salvation Army, e.g., attending meetings, assisting with public relations, etc.
  • Assist with preparing grant proposals; gathering data, and submitting compliance reports.
  • Prepare and submit monthly statistics and update reports.
  • Support the local service unit, including attending meetings and preparing reports.
  • Assist with other department functions (i.e. disaster, special events, etc.).
  • Assist with tracking, processing and submitting revenue and expenses, and budget preparations.
  • Assist with securing vendors.
  • Notify supervisor of any mechanical and/or property issues within the Service Center.
  • Ensure all program data is entered into SIMS/HMIS, as assigned.

Will be assigned to one of the following areas:

HeatShare

  • Determine client eligibility for Heatshare; conduct screening and process applications.
  • Distribute funds based on program requirements and procedures.

Food Shelf Coordination

  • Coordinate all aspects of the operation of the food shelf, i.e., food orders, stocking shelves, organizing food pick-ups, etc.
  • Ensure the food shelf meets or exceeds all governing and funding requirements.
  • Track monetary and in-kind donations made to the food shelf and make necessary deposits.
  • Complete all necessary reports as requested by TEFAP and/or food bank.

Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Human Services or two years of college coursework. In lieu of education, a combination of relevant experience and education may be considered.
  • Experience working in a social service setting preferred.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks with a minimum of direction.
  • Work well with diverse clients and respect confidentiality; work within ethical and legal parameters.
  • Computer literate; ability to successfully use Microsoft Office Suite and online database systems.
  • Valid Driver's License and must meet the MVR driver's qualifications.
  • Must pass The Salvation Army background checks.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Willingness to support the philosophy, goals, objectives, and mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and Safe From Harm training must be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment
