Mgmt. Position-Garden Center (Powell)

General Responsibilities: Fully responsible for all phases of the garden center and the operations of satellite garden departments: including, sales, training of employees, staff meetings, quality control and plant maintenance, receiving of goods and all aspects of customer service.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Guiding and supervision of garden center personnel.

• Daily scheduling and start-up of personnel.

• Preparation, counting, and balancing cash registers every morning and evening.

• All retail sales including deliveries, and or pick-ups.

• Inspection of garden center, at least once a day, for weeds, insects, diseases, damage, moisture problems, pruning needs, signage, quality control, etc…

• Organization and purchasing of all materials and plants for the garden center and hardscape departments.

• Entering and updating bar codes, sale prices and dates, purchase orders, receivers, etc.

• Supervision and maintenance of all plant material for the garden center.

• Handling and resolving of any concerns or complaints.

• Writing and placement of all help wanted ads for the garden center department in coordination with Hardware side general management.

• Preparation, placement, and scheduling of all advertising, special events, and promotions for garden center and landscape departments in coordination with Hardware side general managment.

• Training all employees as needed on cash register, phone etiquette, customer relations, plant identification, plant care and maintenance, etc. in coordination with Hardware side general managment.

• Pruning, spraying, fertilizing, weeding, etc… all plant material.

• Pricing and inventory of all plant material and merchandise.

• Proper winter protection of all plant material.

• Inspection and maintenance of all buildings and greenhouses at least weekly.

• Cleanliness of entire garden center and plant sales areas.

• Removal or treatment of any diseased or second quality materials or plants.

• Ordering all hard goods for garden center.

• Maintenance of sprinkler system including start-up, shutdown, draining, repairs, etc…

• Offering input on future growth, improvements, product lines, etc…

• Putting in whatever effort is required to complete any and all assigned tasks.

• Enforcement of the company’s policies and manual.

• Hiring of garden center personnel.

This Garden Center position works with Hardware store Manager/managment in overall store operations and the achievement of company goals and directives.

Position Type: Full-Time
Average Hours: 50 hours per week
Starting Wage: $28.00+-/per hour (Experience and Knowledge directly affect starting wage.) 100% health insurance premium paid by company)

Education and Job Experience:
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

• Lawn and Garden retail experince REQUIRED
• A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a retail/garden center environment
• A combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge
• Prior management experience preferred
