Ultium Cells Overview:

Ultium Cells is a joint venture Lithium-Ion Automotive Battery Cell Manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solutions and General Motors. This new construction high-technology plant will have the latest Battery Cell manufacturing technology. The investment in this new business venture represents a commitment of more than $2.3 Billion. It will be among the largest Battery Cell Manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells will produce battery cells for General Motors North American electric vehicle applications.

The Ultium cell partners include LG Energy Solutions; the world’s largest manufacturer of Automotive Battery Cells in the world and General Motors a global company committed to delivering safer, better and more sustainable ways for people to get around.


Position Description:

The Quality/ Reliability Engineer is responsible for ensuring a product or component meets the established standards of quality including performance reliability, usability and performance. Verifying quality standards in accordance with the requirements of the organization. Communicate effectively within all levels and across functions of organization to discuss and resolve quality issues in a timely manner. Support and drive effective problem solving to improve manufacturing yield performance.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Train operators to perform CMM, ICP, BET and other inspection equipment effectively including escalation
  • Train operators to perform components incoming procedure effectively including escalation process if a defect is found
  • In line Return Sample Analysis and provide escalation to area leaders
  • Lead process investigations to improve process stability and capabilities on components
  • Close communication with multi-functional teams, including Production, Engineering, Development, Purchasing
  • Attend meetings with Global Suppliers and LG-Chem Engineering Center as required; support if related to changes on components and quality issues
  • Maintain Lab equipment to ensure optimal productivity
  • Frequent communication with headquarters and abroad suppliers to share and implement verified corrective actions
  • Continuous monitoring the effectiveness of corrective actions
  • Establish process specifications through Design of Experiment; optimize process parameters; and improve process capabilities
  • Measure and provide support of the quality status of Incoming materials, Process, finished product
  • Additional duties as assigned


Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Engineering(Chemical/Industrial/Mechanical/Electric/etc.), Chemistry, Science or related programs.
  • 0-5 year’s experience in Engineering or Quality roles in an industrial environment
  • Need and capability of finding improvement ideas for yield in components and inspections
  • Positive, dedicated attitude and demonstrated effectiveness to achieve given goals within due dates
  • The willingness and ability to work flexible hours occasionally to support team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Leadership and Open-mindedness
  • Ability to work in a team environment to drive success
  • Drive Effective Problem Solving and support team to implement solutions
  • Knowledge of appropriate measures of performance and applicable standards
  • Preparation of meaningful reports on work performed and conclusions
  • Ability to obtain, understand and apply relevant information
  • Ability to use technology for furthering functional competencies
