Senior Systems Administrator for High Performance Computing - Information Technology

West Virginia University's Research Corporation is seeking applications for a Senior HPC Systems Administrator.

About the Opportunity

This position is responsible for both for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of three WVU research computing systems (A CPU cluster co-located at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, a HIPAA compliant cluster for WVU CTSI and a GPU cluster named Dolly Sods in the WVU Chemistry Research Lab.

The Sr. HPC Systems Administrator will also manage a Jr. Systems Administrator and interface with faculty and users to maintain high standards of computing power, training of new users and data integrity (particularly acute with the new HIPAA system). The systems admin is also responsible for forecasting needs for new data storage, connectivity and upgrades.

What you'll do:

• Manage staff (Junior Systems Administrator).
• Plan for and develop processes for future HPC services.
• Manage new and existing research storage systems.
• Provide routine and on-going systems maintenance and upgrades to current HPC clusters and other related systems.
• Understand HIPAA privacy rules and how they apply to current and future HPC systems at the university.
• Monitor and evaluate performance and operational integrity of high-performance computing clusters as well as other computers used for scientific computing and perform adjustments, configuration changes, and modify systems and optimize their performance.
• Interface with faculty, users for customer service.
• Securing HPC and related systems in conjunction with University Policies.

• BS degree or higher in computer science or related area.
• A minimum of five (5) years of post graduate experience in managing and using HPC systems for research computing.
• Expertise in Linux operating systems, parallel computing processes, and hardware needs and basic support for both computational tools, network interfaces and storage.
• Staff management experience.
• Experience with HIPAA compliance standards for digital patient health records.

The WVURC was created as a not-for-profit corporation in 1985 to support research (R1) at West Virginia University. We provide evaluation, development, patenting, management, and marketing services for inventions of the faculty, staff and students of the University.
