Under the guidance of the forensic nursing administrator, with Tulsa Police Department, we are looking for a professional Nurse Practitioner who can deliver primary medical care to a wide variety of patients. The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for caring for patients, maintaining accurate and current patient records, and scheduling and administering follow-up appointments to patients as required. Provides specialized nursing services in the area of forensic health care, women's health care, and pediatric health care, and does related work as required. Provides timely and comprehensive assessment and documentation of health issues arising as a result of victimization including strangulation and traumatic brain injury. The successful candidate collaborates with physicians, nurses, law enforcement, and victim advocacy agencies to assess and address the health and safety of the victim, to ensure all diagnosis and treatment needs are being met.

Hours: 20 hours per week

Essential tasks:

Excellent patient care skills applicable to this position.
Must be able to work successfully with a diverse group of healthcare professionals, law enforcement, advocates, other staff, and members of the public.
Must be able to follow directions and work as part of a team.
Complete education courses related to domestic violence, sexual assault, strangulation, and anoxic/traumatic brain injury.
Champion the Strangulation care recommendations of the Strangulation Training Institute and the American College of Emergency Physicians
Provide primary care services to clients in the DVIS shelter and/or Family Safety Center.
Assess patients for Traumatic Brain Injury and refer as appropriate
Must be able to work with a diverse patient population.
Ability to achieve high performance working with diverse groups of individuals and leadership in a team environment
Possess exceptional organizational skills, multitasking ability, and effective communication skills to ensure patients are well informed, and the program is well promoted internally and to the public.
Ability to develop and present training programs to other professionals.
Provides regular education sessions on relevant topics to patients and other professionals
Counsels patients regarding related health risks and questions
Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
Professional manner and appearance.
Monitors and maintains medical supplies and inventory
Sets up, operates, maintains, and calibrates medical office area equipment
Maintains files, computerized medical system records, and reports
Must report to work on a regular and timely basis
Competent in using electronic medical records and information systems to provide effective documentation of patient care
Passionate about rendering quality and compassionate service to patients
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Testify in court when subpoenaed.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Ability to complete history and physical exam with attention to detail and utilizing patient centered care. Understand laboratory results. Considerable medical judgment is required to determine the appropriate diagnosis and treatment within the scope of practice. The Nurse Practitioner requires an advanced level of competency in nursing through additional education or training as well as a Nurse Practitioner's license and prescriptive privileges. Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of advanced professional nursing; considerable knowledge of the principles of forensic nursing and examination; considerable knowledge of the state laws governing sexual assault and other similar violent crimes; considerable knowledge of terms common to the medical field; and considerable knowledge of program administration; and the ability to courteously and tactfully communicate with volunteer nurses, law enforcement personnel and the public.

Requirements:

Training and experience:

Completion of an advanced practice registered nursing education program in one of four recognized advanced practice registered nurse roles. Licensed by the State of Oklahoma Board of Nursing and recognized as a Nurse Practitioner. At least two (2) years of clinical experience working as a family nurse practitioner and experience working with pediatric patients.

Licenses and Certifications:

Possess current and valid license from the State Board of Nursing for Advanced Nursing Practice
Officially accredited to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) by AANP or ANCC
Meet all state requirements and obtain valid Prescriptive Authority
Meet and keep valid all state and national legal requirements to practice as FNP in Oklahoma.
