Description

The School of Pharmacy at West Virginia University Research Corporation is currently accepting applications for a Pharmacy Technician Trainee.

About the Opportunity

As a Pharmacy Technician Trainee, you will be enrolled in to the WVU Pharmacy Technician Education Program. Under the supervision of the professional staff, the pharmacy technician trainee will complete the 6-8-week self-paced program. The program is designed to provide trainees with the basic skills and knowledge to begin a career as a pharmacy technician. The course work will fulfill the requirements of the Board of Pharmacy and prepare trainees for the state examination. The goal is for trainees to pass the state examination to become a West Virginia Certified Pharmacy Technician.

Upon successful completion of the trainee program and receipt of state certification, you will be responsible for answering requests for information, prior authorization, or help from pharmacy providers enrolled in the WV Bureau for Medical Services Medicaid Prescription Drug Program, Molina Medicaid Solutions, Inc., WV Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA), and WVCHIPs via phone or fax.

What you'll do:

  • Serve as the initial and main point of contact for healthcare providers serving the population of the WV Bureau for Medical Services & WV Public Employees Insurance Agency.
  • Provide excellent customer service through interaction with pharmacies and other healthcare providers.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely over the phone, fax, or electronic mail in a professional manner.
  • Evaluate Help Desk and prior authorization requests using established guidelines and enter approved requests into mainframe computer. Requests which require therapeutic judgement are referred to attending pharmacist.
  • Research provider inquiries using all available resources.
  • Perform callbacks to providers' inquiries when necessary.
  • Document all communications and required information in the appropriate database.
  • Assist Program Director/Pharmacist with administrative details of the program. Gather, coordinate, and develop materials needed for enhanced quality of the program.
  • Respond to requests for information from state, federal, or other governmental agencies and departments, and colleges or other University affiliates.
  • Assist Program Director/Pharmacist with special projects as needed.
  • Compose correspondence requiring a high degree of knowledge and familiarity of the program.
  • Perform research or statistical work in the compilation of reports involving the administrative activities of the program.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to organize information and draw logical conclusions.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and set priorities regarding the work to be accomplished.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to follow guidelines and convey information in an accurate manner.
  • Ability to be flexible and work in an environment with frequent rule changes.

The WVURC was created as a not-for-profit corporation in 1985 to support research (R1) at West Virginia University. We provide evaluation, development, patenting, management, and marketing services for inventions of the faculty, staff and students of the University.

The WVURC receives and administers funds awarded by external agencies for research and other activities and is responsible for helping protect intellectual property through patents, copyrights and licensing agreements for start-up companies based on University research.
