Work in partnership with the Care Services team in their efforts to provide programs and services to the ALS community. Specifically, this position manages the Alternative Communication Program including assistive technology services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage the alternative communication and assistive technology loan closet and ensure accurate tracking of all assistive technology inventory.
  • Responsible for assessing the communication and computer access needs of those diagnosed with ALS in designated territory.
  • Arrange for all repairs of equipment with local agencies.
  • Maintain the confidential patient database, while documenting pertinent information and contact with people with ALS and their families.
  • Provide assistive technology support and services to people living with ALS in assigned territory.
  • Instruct, educate, and train those diagnosed with ALS and other health care professionals as it relates to alternative communication and assistive technology and Territory services. Provide educational seminars to local therapists, families and technology partners re: device use and options for people impacted by ALS.
  • Work directly with individuals diagnosed with ALS regarding placement and procurement of communication and assistive technology devices.
  • Competent in low- and high-tech assistive technology set-up to include computer access, technology applications for communication, environmental control units, and electronic aids for daily living.
  • Order items for AAC/Assistive Technology Program overseeing budgetary considerations.
  • Remains up to date on latest and cutting-edge technology (low and high technology).
  • Be knowledgeable about Territory programs and services for people with ALS and their families.
  • Work with volunteers in managing the Territory's programs.
  • Maintain client confidentiality.
  • Meets with the Managing Director, Care Services to evaluate the need for updates and improvements to the DME/Assistive Technology Program.
  • Works with the Managing Director, Care Services to uphold the program budget and administers the AAC/Assistive Technology programs within the budget.
  • Designs new programs to address client/family needs in partnership with the Care Services Team.
  • Works with the Managing Director Care Services, to establish community partnerships that will make an impact financially and to help grow the DME/Assistive Technology Program.
  • Participate in monthly Care Services and all-staff meetings.
  • Assist the Territory in the geographic expansion of the DME/assistive technology program.
  • Participate in annual Audit preparation with the Managing Director, Care Services and Territory Executive.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a range of people including, but not limited to, the Care Services Team, ALS community, volunteers and other Territory departments to meet the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Commitment to the ALS Association's mission.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work under pressure.
  • Personal qualities which reflect professionalism in appearance and behavior at all times.
  • Some physical duties are required: able to lift 50 lbs.; bend; stoop; sit for long periods of time; walk up and down 1 flight of stairs.
  • Perform other tasks as requested by Managing Director, Care Services.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Speech/Language Pathologist, Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) or Occupational Therapist (OT); ATP certification a plus.
  • Assistive Technology experience required.
  • Significant computer skills to assist patients with computer access needs.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision; must be a self-starter.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a database system.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Possess knowledge of the speech and assistive technology problems specific to individuals with ALS and knowledge of the types and variety of communication and assistive technology devices available to those served.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be able to travel across the Territory on an as needed basis.
  • Ability to work nights and some weekends as required.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google products, Apple products and Database Management.
The ALS Association's pay range for this position is $66,950 to $90,120

The ALS Association has compensation ranges for various work locations throughout the United States, allowing us to compensate employees competitively and consistently in diverse geographic markets. The above-listed listed range shows prospective compensation for this role; the appropriate range will be established by what is eventually determined to be the candidate's primary work location. Various factors, including the complexity and significance of the role, job duties/requirements, relevant experience and abilities, and primary work location, determine individual compensation. Compensation ranges are evaluated and typically adjusted on a regular basis. Offers are made within the compensation range that is in effect at the time of the job offer.

The Association may, at its discretion, offer merit-based increases tied to individual performance. The benefits listed may differ depending on employment status with the Association.
