Job Description

The Plastics Process Engineer III will plan, direct, coordinate, and perform a wide variety of duties to continuously improve new and existing manufacturing processes, plant layouts, building improvements, and expansions. The engineer works closely with the Operations, Tooling, Engineering, Quality, and New Product Development departments to determine, implement, and optimize the production of quality parts per customer requirements and Cambro’s established manufacturing standards.

  • Oversees new and existing projects; coordinates and delegates as necessary within various Cambro departments. Capable of covering for the Process Engineering Manager.
  • Develop manufacturing plans for all processes within Cambro.
  • Troubleshoots problematic jobs.
  • Conducts mold trials, evaluations, and documentation.
  • Set up and monitor mold maintenance guidelines.
  • Trains and monitors systematic molding techniques.
  • Recognizes areas needing improvement and change; implements improvements to ISO standards for any or all manufacturing areas at Cambro.
  • Implements value stream mapping, standardized work, continuous flow, material flow, etc.
  • Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including Production, Quality, Materials, Maintenance, Sourcing, etc., to apply root cause analysis tools and develop and implement corrective actions for any issues.
  • Trains others in areas of expertise; may fill in during the Process Engineering Manager’s absence.
  • Maintain reliable and consistent attendance, including being punctual and dependable to meet the department's and the organization's needs.
  • Execute each essential duty satisfactorily in order to perform the job successfully.
  • Follows all safety procedures required in the work area, wears PPE as needed, attends all safety meetings, and reports safety.

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering or equivalent; 10 years in the plastics industry or similar experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual Spanish and English preferred. Ability to read, interpret, and develop documents, instructions, operation manuals, safety rules, etc.
  • Possesses the technical knowledge necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job.
  • Strong technical talent in the Manufacturing—Process Development/Process Improvement field.
  • Working knowledge of injection molding presses, support equipment, thermoplastics, rotational molding, compression molding, thermoset molding, thermoforming, and web molding.
  • Knowledge of the systematic approach to injection molding.
  • Basic computer skills in MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio; advanced skills in Excel.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing monitoring and material requirements planning (MRP) systems. Understanding of statistical process control (SPC), statistical quality control (SQC), and design of experiments (DOE).
  • Must be able fully to complete all phases of the Cambro SIM Protocol.
  • Able to use and teach how to use all production machinery and auxiliary equipment to production personnel and validate training.
  • Able to design and conduct both on-the-job training and classroom training.
  • Capable of improving processes using DOE or Windows Study techniques.
  • Able to use all aspects of scientific manufacturing for process improvement and production needs.
  • Capable of critiquing all aspects of the quoting stage and new tooling review.
  • Able to implement and report all phases of Process Engineering required.
  • Must have completed Systematic Molding 1 and be a certified Master Molder I and Master Molder II, as well as completed Paulson Training Center courses or equivalent.
  • Ability to resolve complex problems and manage multiple tasks given in written and oral form.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and ten years of directly related work experience.
  • Bilingual Spanish
  • Certificates, licenses, or registrations, as applicable in Systematic Molding, Paulson, RJG, Lean Six Sigma, and/or Kaizen
  • Experience in Uniloy / Milacron Structural Web machinery
