Will be working in our clinical lab, referral section.

MLT/MT –Referral/Send Out Testing Job Summary: 

  • Oversees testing sent to multiple reference labs. Monitors and acts on Reference Lab requests and results. Follows up requests from clinicians for reference lab and esoteric tests. Handles all exceptions.
  • Performs result entry for non-interfaced tests. Recognizes suboptimal specimens as it effects lab results. Knowledgeable in reference lab test selection. Able to identify critical values as it relates to infection control, providing appropriate communication.
  • Is responsible to process, package, and ship reference lab specimens.  Able to package and ship Category A and B specimens to the State Lab and other approved reference labs. Tracks new test availability and changes to recommendations, including updates in test requirements for emerging pathogens.
  • Assists in training students and specimen processing staff. Provides direction to Specimen Processors and Phlebotomists, as well as other healthcare staff in the proper collection, processing, and transportation of all laboratory specimens.

MLT/MT-Referral/Send Out Testing Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor Degree in Medical Technology required or comparable experience/training. ASCP or equivalent certification, or certification eligible. 
  • A minimum of one year of experience is preferred.
