Responsibilities

As an Accountant at the NSA, you will be instrumental in administering and potentially remediating a wide array of critical accounting work streams, using the PeopleSoft financial system. Responsibilities of an Accountant include, but are not limited to: - Authorizing, recording, classifying, and summarizing economic events - Recording and analyzing complex non-routine transactions - Performing reconciliations of reporting and accounting entries - Monitoring financial systems operations for legal compliance and internal control purposes - Preparing reports on financial status and operations for external oversight authorities - Using managerial accounting systems to help decision makers manage cost and measure performance - Recording, evaluating, and remediating general property, plant, and equipment *Please note that 24 semester credit hours in accounting is REQUIRED to be considered for this position and will be validated during the hiring process. Job Summary

We are looking for entry and experienced accountants to provide quantitative information useful in making decisions regarding the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services; record and analyze complex non-routine transactions; monitor financial systems operations for legal compliance and internal control purposes; prepare reports on financial status and operations for external oversight authorities; and use managerial accounting systems to help decision makers manage cost and measure performance.

Qualifications

The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Degree must be in Accounting or a Business-related field with AT LEAST 24 SEMESTER CREDIT HOURS IN ACCOUNTING courses. ENTRY/DEVELOPMENTAL Entry is with a Bachelor's degree and no experience. Experience in recording and analyzing financial data and transactions and/or working within the accounting career field is desired. FULL PERFORMANCE Entry is with a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree plus 1 year of relevant experience or a Doctoral degree and no experience. Relevant experience must be working within the accounting career field (e.g., using financial data to plan for future opportunities and minimize risk, recording and analyzing financial data and transactions, monitoring financial systems operations for legal compliance and internal control purposes). Candidates who have met the requirements to sit for the CPA exam are preferred.

Competencies

The ideal candidate is someone with a desire for continual learning and strong communication, problem-solving, analytic, and interpersonal skills, and using the Microsoft Office Suite. Candidates will also be required to: - Record and analyze financial data and transactions for legality, appropriateness, and accuracy - Use specialized software packages for tasks such as inventory management, financial management, equipment diagnostics, or other specialized functions - Use spreadsheet and relational database software, such as Microsoft Excel and Access - Help or assist coworkers, subordinates, or other employees when needed - Work as part of a team - Strong preference given to those with detailed Excel skills, i.e., pivot tables, using formulas, etc. - Strong preference given to those with Federal Accounting experience (Experienced level positions)

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Pay: Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position. Salary Range: $55,924 - $128,956 (Entry/Developmental, Full Performance) Salary range varies by location, work level, and relevant experience to the position. On the job training, internal NSA courses, and external training will be made available based on the need and experience of the selectee. Meade, MD**
