Hiring Range: Mechanic I: $26.68/hour - $30.01/hour, Mechanic II: $31.70/hour - $35.66/hour *Starting salary based on experience*

Salary Range: Mechanic I: $26.68/hour - $40.01/hour, Mechanic II: $31.70/hour - $47.55/hour

Position Summary: Performs various administrative, technical, and mechanical duties at the entry/journeyman mechanic level for the Streets Department Fleet Maintenance shop, consistent with the organization's values and mission statement.

Supervision Exercised and Received: Position is supervised by the Asst. Superintendent of Streets/Shop Foreman and the Superintendent of Streets/Fleet Manager.

Essential Job Functions:
Mechanic
* Provides analysis and troubleshooting on all types of vehicles, including heavy to small equipment problems, repairing, rebuilding and part replacement, performs welding and fabricating as needed on gasoline and diesel-powered equipment. Repairs suspensions, hydraulic, fuel and cooling systems, brake issues and power/drive trains. Performs electrical diagnostics and repair on all types of vehicles and equipment. Tire changes and repair understands how to read hydraulic and electrical schematics. Performs field service as needed on all types of equipment. Washes vehicles and takes other appropriate maintenance measures, as needed. Performs other duties relative to equipment maintenance as required or assigned.
Repair
* Performs all PM services scheduled by Computerized Fleet Analysis program properly and on time. Works with other department on scheduling vehicles in for service work. Ensures that all oil samples are properly labeled and sent in for analysis. All repairs are to be done in a professional and safe manor and communicated when repair is complete. Looks for leaks, signs of wear, or anything which might appear out of the ordinary, in the hope of preventing unscheduled vehicle or equipment down time. Advises supervisor of any problems and performs repairs as appropriate.
Diagnostics
* Examines and analyzes gasoline and diesel-powered vehicle parts and/or units to identify problems. Determines type and degree of problem. Diagnoses solution and/or repair to correct problems. Reads, studies, interprets, and determines schematics for diagnosis and repair.
Welding and Fabrication
* Employs welding and fabrication skills in the repair of vehicles and equipment and to assist the Street Department and/or other City departments in their normal operations or in Special Projects.
Purchasing
* Monitors and tracks inventory, orders, and purchases supplies to maintain an adequate inventory. Keeps track of purchasing receipts and reconciliation of purchasing card.
Training
* Attends meetings/training sessions as necessary. Assists in training of the work force in equipment operation, maintenance, and safety. Maintains shop and storage orderliness and cleanliness.
Other Duties
* Assists in the maintenance of the shop including painting, cleaning, and maintenance of shop equipment. Cares for personal and City owned tools in a professional manner. Assists the Street Department in their normal activities such as operating equipment for snow removal, painting streets, flagging or asphalt repair

* Maintenance: Ability to recognize mechanical issues and subsequently perform satisfactory repairs.

Minimum Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: Five years of vehicle/equipment mechanic experience on all types of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment, or equivalent training.
Technical Knowledge: Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Outlook (Email). Must have a basic understanding of computers and online computer-based technology applications, which includes accessing web-based platforms.
Licenses & Certifications: Valid Colorado CDL driver's license class B with tanker endorsement. Air Brake inspector certification or ability to achieve one within 6 months of hire.

NOTE: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge, and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements above.

NOTE: This position requires a Criminal Background Check upon hire. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Criminal Background Check.

NOTE: This position is required to comply with state, federal and local regulations concerning Drug and Alcohol Testing procedures applicable to Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders which includes, but is not limited to: pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing and a completed, satisfactory previous employer reference form. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a job-related physical exam.

Position Type and Work Hours:
* Regular full time, hours may vary with workload.
* Evenings/Weekends will be required dependent on emergency repairs and snow removal in addition to the forty-hour work week.
* On-Call: Required to perform on-call duty and must be immediately available for 24-hour alarm response on a rotating schedule. Such activities include but are not limited to snow removal, sweeping and/or flushing for high pollution days, monitoring mudslides and high water, sandbagging, cleaning up debris, fallen trees and stop sign repair.

Work Environment:
* Indoors: Work is performed in a well-lit, heated, and vented shop. Exposure to some fumes, dust and noise is present.
* Outdoors/Off-Site: Subject to do equipment repairs outside in all types of weather conditions.
