Selective Insurance is recruiting for a Vice President, Advanced Analytics that will be responsible for developing and maintaining the advanced analytics strategy, leading the Advanced Analytics team, and integrating advanced analytics into the insurance operation in order to deliver insights, improve efficiencies, drive strategic and tactical decision making, and improve outcomes. Partners with business leaders and stakeholders and Information Technology (IT) colleagues to develop new use cases and implementations of predictive analytics. Leads the ongoing evolution of our enterprise advanced analytics capabilities. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leads the Advanced Analytics team in the development, maintenance, and execution of complex statistical analysis and advanced analytics solutions, with oversight of all operational and actuarial loss modeling, in support of the achievement of company long-term strategies and near-term objectives.
  • Partners with business leaders to understand challenges and proactively identify opportunities to integrate analytics into the insurance operations to improve operational efficiency, operational effectiveness, and decision-making capabilities. Leads the creation, prioritization, and development of business use cases and the implementation of practical solutions in alignment with the business strategy and operating plans.
  • Develops the vision for the modeling and analytics landscape at Selective to meet shifting business demands and industry dynamics. Enhances Selective's advanced analytics capabilities through the exploration and application of new and innovative techniques, including the exploration of use cases for generative Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  • Partners with a wide variety of key stakeholders and IT to optimize the advanced analytics lifecycle, improve overall productivity, and increase overall capacity and capability of our people, data assets, and technology. Evaluates new external data sources in partnership with IT for use in modeling efforts, maintaining high standards for data quality and ethical considerations.
  • Responsible for defining, maintaining, and monitoring key success metrics associated with advanced analytics models to ensure models are effective and unbiased, and recognize when adjustments are needed to drive the desired business outcome. Leverages business expertise to understand and convey appropriate usage of model outputs and where potential for error lies. Effectively communicates implications and recommendations to business stakeholders to produce positive business outcomes that drive company strategy.
  • Serves as a voting member and thought leader on the Big Data & Model Governance Committee.
  • Monitors developments in the insurance industry and remains current on applicable regulatory matters and best practices, with emphasis in the realms of data privacy and model governance.
  • Responsible for leading, supervising, and coordinating the efforts of the Advanced Analytics team to ensure that the timeliness and quality of Advanced Analytics solutions meet stakeholder expectations and service and performance levels.
  • Develops, coaches and mentors team members. Looks for opportunities to utilize cross-functional training and rotational task or job responsibilities to provide growth opportunities for staff.

Job Qualifications

  • College degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Business or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of Property/Casualty actuarial experience.
  • 5+ years statistical modeling experience preferred.
  • 5+ years management experience preferred.
  • Associate or Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Excellent networking and relationship building skills; proven ability to interface with senior management.
  • Self-starter with strong project management skills.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Detailed working knowledge of statistical analysis techniques.
  • Proficient use of data analytic software tools (e.g., Excel, Access, SQL, PowerBI).
  • Experience using statistical modeling software (e.g., R, Python, AzureML).

Salary range:$180,600 - $270,900. The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include the candidate's qualifications and experience.
