Job Description
OVERVIEW:
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced individual in immunodiagnostics and molecular diagnostics. The individual will be responsible for the development and implementation of diagnostic assays for the identification of research animal pathogens. He/she/they will make scientific observations, maintain detailed workbooks and documentation, and ensure all documentation fulfills regulatory standards. The candidate will be expected to maintain an understanding of the technological principles and applications of the organization’s test services. This is an on-site position.
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
REQUIREMENTS:
• B. Sci. in biology, biochemistry, or other life science, with 3-5 years of laboratory experience in an industry setting; or MS degree with 1-3 years of experience.
• Experience running ELISA and PCR tests is essential; experience with related tests (e.g. Luminex IFA) would also be useful.
• Experience in ELISA and PCR assay development is highly desirable.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize duties, and carry through with all steps needed to complete each function.
• Ability to clearly identify and communicate concerns in a timely fashion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS:
• This role is responsible for executing processes in the production of ELISA assay kits:
o Prepare bulk quantities of microtiter plates, conjugates, and serum controls.
o Monitor all processes and equipment to ensure efficiency and quality.
o Prepare and label antibodies and/or purify antibodies; determine antigen concentrations.
o Experience in cell culture techniques is a plus.
o Label and fill reagents
o Monitor inventory of critical raw materials
o Assist Quality Assurance team in writing SOPs and performing validations.
• Develop and implement PCR-based diagnostic assays in a high throughput environment.
• Support the diagnostic group with hands on approach and knowledge.
• Independently analyzes data and interprets results.
• Advise supervisor of factors that may affect quality and usefulness of data.
• Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve standard laboratory techniques, protocols, processes, and equipment.
• Demonstrate consistently good communication and interpersonal skills with employees, management, and clients (where applicable).
• Use and maintain scientific equipment, instrumentation, and computer systems.
