GET TO KNOW HUNGER SOLUTIONS NEW YORK:

Hunger Solutions New York, Inc., founded in 1985 and based in Albany, is a statewide nonprofit organization that strives to alleviate hunger in New York by promoting awareness of hunger, public policies that contribute to ending hunger, and participation in federal nutrition assistance programs such as SNAP, WIC, the Summer Food Service Program, the School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch Program, and the Child and Adult Care Food Program.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Director of Accounting & Finance is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day financial activities of Hunger Solutions New York. The Director should oversee grant vouchering and forecast cash flow with the overarching goal of ensuring fiscal soundness for the organization. The Director should be comfortable with reporting out on the organization’s fiscal position to senior management and board members while overseeing a team of four specialists and associates. Additionally, the Director should have a strong alignment with not-for-profit work and to the mission at Hunger Solutions New York.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Maintain Hunger Solutions New York’s accounting system (QuickBooks), including the Schedule of Accounts, all general ledger entries, journal entries, and trail balance.
  • Oversee all accounts receivable and payable functions.
  • Oversee payroll and all related functions including payments for employee reimbursements, benefits and retirement plan.
  • Daily monitoring of bank accounts and weekly cash management.
  • Track expenses and develop agency reports and individual contract/grant fiscal reports. 
  • Track donations and assist with reports and annual acknowledgement letters.
  • Coordinate bank reconciliations.
  • Develop monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and other management reports.
  • Complete monthly NY Contract Audits.
  • Prepare quarterly MWBE reports for all contracts.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly and annual fiscal close processes.
  • Assist with internal agency budget development process as well as budgets for various funding sources.
  • Oversee the annual audit and act as the staff liaison with the external auditing firm. 
  • Comply with financial policies and procedures and recommend revisions as appropriate.
  • Supervise the Finance department including regular meetings with fiscal staff.
  • Other fiscal activities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Director of Accounting & Finance should possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting required; CPA strongly preferred
  • At least seven years of experience working with not-for-profit accounting required
  • At least five years of experience supervising a finance team required
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and QuickBooks 
  • Experience with audit preparation 
  • Experience processing payroll and related benefits
  • Experience with monthly, quarterly, and annual fiscal close-out
  • Experience producing and presenting reports to Senior Management and Board of Directors
  • Strong demonstrated alignment to mission required
  • Must currently reside in New York State and be able to reliably commute to the Albany, NY Office four days per week

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Hunger Solutions New York is committed to its employees and thusly provides a competitive compensation package. Salary is commensurate with experience, but is expected to be $75K - $90K annually. Hunger Solutions New York offers fully paid benefit premiums including health, dental, life, short- and long-term disability, and a retirement plan that offers a 5% match (different vesting periods apply to each benefit and will be discussed as part of the interview process). A Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) may be available depending upon the health insurance package chosen. Additionally, Hunger Solutions New York offers a generous amount of time off to each employee.
