We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer who will be reporting to the Ohio Engineering Manager. This position is based out of the Columbus Ohio Aqua Office. The Project Engineer I builds and uses hydraulic models to analyze water distribution systems and wastewater collection systems. In this role, you will work with key stakeholders to develop recommendations for resolving existing operational and compliance issues, and to evaluate growth opportunities and acquisitions. Prepares short- and long-term comprehensive plans for water and wastewater systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Collaborative capital infrastructure planning for assigned divisions/systems. Regularly updates Engineering Manager as to monthly capital financial projections. Driver/coordinator of the 5 year capital plan for assigned divisions/systems for both water and wastewater. Responsible for design of assigned CIP projects (i.e. elevated storage tanks, boosters, sanitary lift stations, waterline projects, WTP projects, WWTP projects, regulating vaults, etc.) and review of designs by direct reports. Setup of primary project accounting files on Company software (i.e. Powerplan, SAP) for assigned projects. Responsible for submittal of any required permits and approvals with regulatory agencies. Responsible for obtaining necessary easements for all assigned projects. Responsible for creation and management of bidding documents; preparation and obtaining approvals for requisitions and proposals. Management of construction phase and pertinent contractor(s) and inspectors, as well as legal filing of Notice of Commencement. Responsible for the processing of invoices and all pertinent construction accounting paperwork for project closeout. Assists Engineering Manager in Due Diligence phase with potential acquisitions. Assists with other tasks or projects as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required. Selected candidate must be a Registered, Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio or the ability to obtain PE license within one year from hire date. Two or more years of experience in water and wastewater is preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Office applications, as well as other software applications used in the normal course of business Excellent written and verbal communications skills; communicate effectively (clearly, concisely and professionally) with internal customers Strong customer service skills Ability to work well under pressure Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment A team player able to work effectively in a team fostered multi-tasking environment WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Perform sedentary work- exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Working conditions include approximately 50% travel to work sites of Aqua within the State of Ohio.
