The Opportunity

The Valuation Specialist is a team-oriented role responsible for coordinating with outside pricing vendors and fund companies to receive critical pricing data, pricing the Variable Separate Investment Accounts, sending all pricing related files downstream following critical validation, and benchmarking analysis.  This role may also be asked to participate in projects, fill in for other Investment Operations roles and responsibilities as needed, and participate in system testing efforts.

Reporting to the Director of Fund Operations, the role requires effective collaboration, multi-tasking, attention to detail, and partnership with team members, fund companies, outside vendors, and internal IT departments & business areas to ensure that all pricing is done accurately, timely and received in good order.

The Team

The Valuation team is primarily responsible for the daily valuation of the investment products offered through our Variable Life and Variable Annuity business lines. The team is highly knowledgeable regarding the pricing of the separate account investments and is comprised of 3 team members, which includes one team leader and a peer.  The team prices approximately 5,000 separate investment accounts daily and works with outside vendors and fund companies to receive mutual fund prices and distribution rates to complete the pricing process for the life and annuity separate investment accounts.  The team is highly motivated with a strong sense of accuracy and providing prices in a timely manner, and are focused  on continuously looking for opportunities to make recommendations for process improvements as appropriate.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Using a MassMutual proprietary system, import external NAV’s, accrual rates, special/ordinary dividend rates and capital gain rates.

  • Evaluate any pricing/dividend conflicts to ensure accuracy of data imported.

  • Analyze benchmark and other reporting tools to validate calculated prices and follow-up/resolve any discrepancies.

  • Maintain excellent documentation per procedures and as requested for exception processes.

  • Coordinate with IT and other departments to assist in resolving processing issues.

  • Participate in any regulatory requests for data and walk-throughs for internal and external audits as requested.

  • Build mutually beneficial relationships with Fund Companies to develop and maintain standards consistent with industry standards for the accuracy of the valuation process.

  • Under direction, provide support and routine UAT testing for projects as needed.

  • Research pricing issues and consult with others within the team for solution options and presentation to manager.

  • May participate in cross-training team members as appropriate.

The Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 1+ year's operational work experience and/or reviewing items for accuracy

  • 1+ year's customer service experience/working with internal or external customers

  • 1+ year's experience with Microsoft Office

  • Must be able to work the following schedule: 12:30PM - 9:00PM (Monday-Friday)

  • Due to the nature of this position, as a part of our background check process, candidates must be able to pass a non-registered fingerprint background check to qualify as a fingerprinted person under FINRA

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 2+ years’ experience in the financial services industry

  • 1+ years' experience with manipulating / analyzing data sets

  • Excellent analytical skills

  • Proven attention to detail

  • Strong communication, both written and verbal

  • Active listening skills with an emphasis on customer service

  • Proven ability to follow general instructions and procedures
