Polysomnographic Technician

HCW Qualifications: Degree/Education: High school graduate (or have a GED). Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: Must be a certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) or Registered Polysomnographic Technician (RPSGT). *May be considered if you are able to receive your certification within the year Experience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the service-specific credentialing instructions. HCW shall have a minimum of one year experience in patient/health care settings or one year of education credit in a health science field. Board Certification: None Licensure/Registration: See Certifications above. HCW Requirements: The contract Polysomnographic Technician shall have sufficient experience to be able to perform tasks which may include, but are not limited to the following: HCW Duties: Provide proficient application and use of the standard 10/20-electrode placement system (perform patient hook-ups). Provide communication of sleep testing procedures with patient and patient's family members, including fitting patients for CP AP titration (mask). Assemble and maintain confidential patient files with pertinent information (i.e., doctor's orders and all applicable sleep lab documents and consent forms). Calibrate equipment, perform patient bio-calibrations, and ensure that all cameras and testing equipment are working properly before "lights-out". Identify the need for and administer mechanical adjuncts (NCPAP, BIPAP, oxygen). Identify and correct artifacts. Follow lab protocols and all lab and hospital safety guidelines. The contract technician will be required to lift 50 pounds of equipment/supplies. Additionally, the contract technician will lift, push, or pull, with assistance (mechanical or co-worker) the weight of the average patient specific to the department. In the mornings, the contract technician must shut down the studies, release the patients, clean all electrodes and all equipment utilized in that shift, and leave the lab clean and ready for the following daytime activities and studies. Communicate with lab director, physicians, and other techs concerning all activities and procedures performed during the shift. Score sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines. Score clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) according to center specific protocols. Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data. The contract technician will receive training in the use of, and after a sufficient training period, will be required to proficiently operate the following equipment: AC/DC amplifiers, electrode application, care and cleaning of equipment, impedance meter, oximeter, jack box, recording sleep system, thermistors, thermocouple, transducer for airflow detections, oxygen application, CPAP/BIPAP ventilation support unit and video recording and monitoring devices. Shifts: Four days, 10-hour shifts with possible rotating weekend schedule.
