POSITION SUMMARY


Reporting to the Director of Supported employment, the Supported Employment Specialist is responsible for coordinating the efforts of the Job Coaches and Supported Employment Managers to find and maintain competitive, supported employment opportunities for the individuals served by CSAAC. The holder of this position is also responsible for the management, development, and performance of Job Coaches.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in human services or related field (Social Work, Psychology etc.)

Experience: Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, preferably in a vocational setting.

Skills: Strong programmatic skills in supported employment are required. Possess excellent planning and problem-solving skills with the ability to devise creative solutions to organizational issues. Strong collaboration skills with the ability to marshal and coordinate internal (staff, other services, departments), and external resources (employer, community groups, and leaders, etc.), to meet program objectives.

Computer literacy and proficiency in standard and updated business software applications (i.e., Microsoft word, excel, messenger etc.).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Program Development:

  • Develops appropriate enriched vocational programs for individuals served by CSAAC. Work with Supported employment Managers and Supported Employment Job Coaches to match individuals with jobs found, commensurate with their abilities and interest.

  • Advocate competitive and fair wages in line with state and federal regulations.

  • Source alternative vocational opportunities when full competitive employment is not attained (e.g., volunteer and training opportunities or other relevant, enriching, and purposeful vocational experiences).

  • Develop full productive vocational schedules for individuals outlining specific and meaningful activities which extend beyond the search of employment.

  • Train Job coaches on individual’s vocational schedule; develop observation practices and documentation systems to ensure vocational schedules and related activities are being followed on a daily and weekly basis.

  • Develop and maintain good relationships with employers.

  • Contact employers on a regular basis to determine and be updated about any problems which may occur; visit jobsite fortnightly (biweekly) as well as immediately should any problem arise and or once identified.
