Duration: 9 weeks (June 3rd to August 2nd)
We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic high school or undergraduate students to join our team as Field Research Assistants in West Lafayette, Indiana. This contract position offers a unique opportunity for students to gain valuable hands-on experience in biological data collection and plant biology, particularly in the areas of phenotyping and RNA tissue collection. This role is ideally suited for individuals with a strong interest in pursuing careers in the life sciences, genetics, agronomy, or related fields.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with field work, including the collection of plant phenotypes and tissue samples for RNA analysis
- Record and maintain accurate data in accordance with established protocols
- Work collaboratively with the research team to ensure timely completion of tasks and project milestones
- Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures, including wearing appropriate protective equipment and clothing
- Perform other related duties as required by the research team
Requirements:
- Basic understanding or interest in plant biology or molecular biology
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work outside, stand, walk, kneel, and stoop for extended periods
Additional Qualifications:
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
