Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Fuel Truck Driver delivers fuel, oil, and other petroleum products to customers safely and efficiently.

Essential Functions:
  • Operates fuel tanker trucks, delivers petroleum products to customers.
  • Loads and unloads tank trucks at Bonanza Fuel's tank farm filling station.
  • Delivers fuel to customers' premises, records amounts of delivery and issues delivery ticket to customer.
  • Delivers records to office.
  • Performs operator pre-trip and post-trip truck inspections.
  • Performs operator level maintenance.
  • Report discrepancies to the BFI Truck Mechanics for repair.
  • Operates truck in a safe and efficient manner, minimizes cost of operation.
  • Participates in Bonanza Fuel spill response team's scheduled and unscheduled training.
  • Participates as a team member during response team activations during and after business hours and weekends.
  • Responds to regular scheduled and unscheduled after hours call out.
  • Reports fuel spills to supervisor.
  • Supports monthly on-call schedule.
  • Help maintain a safe work environment and bring safety issues to the branch supervisor's attention.
  • Participate in required Company and equipment training
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of local Nome delivery area.
  • Ability to be on-call one (1) week per month.
  • General knowledge and experience in operation of Fuel Truck.
  • Ability to pull fuel hoses over obstacles and adverse ground conditions.
  • Excellent analytical, and organizational skills with the ability to evaluate data.
  • Exceptional time management skills.
  • Familiarity with hazardous waste regulations.
  • Ability to be a team player.
  • Good working knowledge of various personal computer business software applications presently used by the Company. Ability to learn new applications.
  • Ability to maintain skills as technology advances.
  • Ability to provide high quality customer service.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of staff and customers.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate to others.
  • Active listening skills; attentiveness when listening to others to understand, ask appropriate questions, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to safely and efficiently operate a motor vehicle and other equipment.
  • Ability to do business ethically with customers, vendors, and co-workers.
  • Ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions.
  • Ability to be detail oriented; superior organizational, follow-up, and records maintenance skills.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations, detect unobvious facts and issues, and exercise resourcefulness in resolving problems.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to learn and understand the Company's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or GED (General Education Degree)
  • Valid state Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the following three (3) endorsements:
  • Hazardous Materials Endorsement (Hazmat)
  • Air Brakes
  • Tanker Endorsements.
  • Current driver qualifications for a CDL as defined by the State of Alaska and Department of Transportation with clean CDL driving record.
  • Current CDL medical certification.
  • Successful employment record of transporting HAZMAT materials, esp. petroleum preferred.
  • Current 24-hour HAZMAT certificate preferred.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The majority of the work is performed in a fuel truck in all types of weather conditions.
