Southland Industries is growing and we're looking for a new Shop Safety Coordinator for our shop in Laurel, MD. In this position, you'll be promoting safety and regulating all safety procedures to ensure that Southland Industries meets all safety requirements by coordinating all division safety activities. POSITION SUMMARY
Southland Industries is growing and we're looking for a new Shop Safety Coordinator for our shop in Laurel, MD. In this position, you'll be promoting safety and regulating all safety procedures to ensure that Southland Industries meets all safety requirements by coordinating all division safety activities. What you'll do:
- Ensure all tasks and functions on project sites are performed safely in accordance with company safety policies and State and Federal OSHA standards.
- Implement the Corporate Safety Award Program.
- Perform shop safety inspections.
- Assist in reporting workers compensation claims.
- Assist in new hire orientation.
- Update and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Assemble various safety manuals for distribution.
- Assist in incident investigations.
- Develop and implement lessons learned.
- Develop safety plans.
- We'll rely on your independent judgement and and your ability to make decisions with respect to day to day job duties and you'll consult with your manager on decisions that significantly impact the company.
What you'll need to be successful:
- A working knowledge of construction safety practices and a background in safety - general industry/manufacturing preferred.
- Ability to interface with Southland's employees/customers in a professional manner.
- Ability to understand, comply with and communicate state, federal and local safety and health OSHA regulations.
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Health, Environmental Applied Sciences, or a related discipline or equivalent experience.
- Certifications in CPR and First Aid, preferred.
- A proactive approach to implementing safety measures.
- A positive attitude.
