The John Knox Village fitness staff utilizes award-winning AI technology, state-of-the art fitness centers with high-end equipment and a variety of classes to enhance residents' well-being and health. You personally, as a group fitness instructor and/or personal trainer, can make a difference by designing individual fitness programs to improve balance, increase strength and stability, reduce pain and inflammation and enhance the overall health of those we serve. If you have a passion for improving the lives of older adults and want to work in a collaborative and fun work environment which improves the lives of older adults through increased movement in our fitness centers, pools, bowling alley, golf course and more, we want you on our team. This position offers flexible scheduling and no nights or weekends.

JOB SUMMARY

Leads programs for recreation, physical fitness (floor, chair, water), information, education and entertainment programs.Supportive of the Village's mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations.Completes training as required by policy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts fitness programs for health, education, entertainment and recreational purposes.
  • May provide personal training to members.
  • Organizes and instructs exercise classes for all fitness levels.
  • Ensures all participants are properly trained on the use of the facility's exercise equipment.
  • Responsible for making sure that the exercise area and equipment are safe and clean.
  • Lead classes in floor, chair and water exercises.
  • May develop, schedule and promote fitness activities in Village activity areas.
  • Assist with Village Activity big events and other activities as requested.
  • Collects health history questionnaires, release forms, and physician consent forms from members.
  • Provides orientation to fitness center and develops individual exercise programs for clients.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in fitness related field preferred.


Licenses/Certifications:

  • Land and water based fitness instruction certifications required.
  • Must have personal training/group instructor certification.
  • Current valid driver's license is required with proof of insurance.
  • Must have a current CPR Certification or must obtain within first 90 days of employment.


Knowledge and Skills (required unless otherwise noted):

  • Basic level knowledge of Microsoft operating system and Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities at the same time.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.


Experience:

  • Must have 1-3 years' experience in Fitness, Therapy or related field.
  • Must have knowledge of a variety of exercise programs and fitness equipment.
  • Experience in directing exercise programs is required. Experience in directing exercise programs for senior adults is preferred.


SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The associate is subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • The associate is exposed to infectious diseases.
  • The associate is required to function around individuals with challenged mental capacities.
  • Required to drive from one location to another if necessary for services provided.
  • Depending on services offered in the department, this position may have "on-call" responsibilities.

  • All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.


PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
