Job Description: Middle School History Teacher
Position Overview: Middle School History Teachers at Aurum Preparatory Academy are integral to our mission of providing a high-quality education to our students. They are responsible for creating a classroom culture that fosters student achievement, personal growth, and moral leadership. As a Middle School History Teacher, you will set high expectations for your students, continually develop as an educational leader, and collaborate with your fellow staff members to redefine public education in East Oakland.

Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development:
- Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned history curriculum.
- Create lesson plans that promote active student engagement and critical thinking.
- Incorporate culturally relevant content to make history come alive for students.
Instruction and Assessment:
- Deliver daily lessons that align with curriculum objectives.
- Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to facilitate their growth.
Classroom Management:
- Establish a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Maintain high behavioral expectations and reinforce school-wide rules.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies.
Student Support:
- Identify students who may need additional academic support.
- Develop and implement intervention strategies to help struggling students.
- Foster positive relationships with students and provide mentorship.
Parent and Guardian Communication:
- Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians through meetings, conferences, and progress reports.
- Collaborate with parents to support student success and address concerns.
Professional Development:
- Engage in continuous professional development to enhance teaching effectiveness.
- Participate in workshops, seminars, and training opportunities.
School Culture:
- Uphold the school's values and contribute to a positive school culture.
- Participate in school events, clubs, and extracurricular activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Valid California teaching credential.
- Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience (urban teaching experience preferred).
- Strong knowledge of history curriculum development and instructional best practices.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Data-driven mindset with the ability to use data to inform instruction.
- Commitment to educational equity and student success.
