Construction Materials Engineering Technican

S&ME is searching for a dynamic and passionate full-time Construction Materials Engineering Technician ready to join our Construction team in Columbia, SC.


What You Will Do:

Join us as a Construction Materials Engineering working outside making an impact on the community around you by conducting field and laboratory testing of construction materials (soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, etc.).


Beyond your technical expertise, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of high profile and exciting projects across the construction industry, engage with clients, and drive business development for S&ME's success.

  • Reviewing plans and specifications in preparation for field observations on construction sites
  • Documenting field activities, observations, and testing results on projects
  • Daily use of Metafield, and/or other field and laboratory information management system
  • Calibrating field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards
  • Perform Special Inspection observations per the International Building Code (IBC)
  • Communicating daily with management staff, general contractors, and clients

Who You Are:

  • High School diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials or equivalent experience and an associate degree in a related field
  • Proficiently complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device, using Microsoft Office and email
  • Effective math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
  • Two or More Active Certification(s) Required:
    • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
    • NICET: Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils)
    • International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
    • DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Density, Asphalt, and Concrete

This is a full-time position with competitive pay based on experience. The successful candidate must meet the requirements of the company's Fleet Management Program, Substance Policy, and Reference Check Program.
