Summary
The primary purpose of this position is managing of the procurement functions of Porter Corp. The procurement manager will align and negotiate with current and new vendors for the purchase of all materials, supplies, equipment and services used by Porter Corp. This position oversees and is responsible for all purchasing activities for all divisions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Negotiates with vendors for goods and services, negotiating the best possible price and service guarantee
- Strategically aligning with the right vendors and keeping management team informed of new products, market conditions and current prices through customer contact
- Evaluate vendor performance
- Establishes purchasing policies and ensures compliance
- Develops new supply sources where vendors are inadequate
- Examines bids and makes awards
- Establishes account/credit terms
- Negotiates blanket purchase orders when appropriate and monitors cost during the time period
- Checks requisitions for appropriate approval and account numbers
- Works closely with Receiving Department to ensure proper supplies arrived
- Traces delinquent arrivals from Purchase Orders
- Follows environmental and safety regulations and acts in compliance with Federal laws
- Complies with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics
- Perform other related duties as required

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's Degree, in a business-related area
- Seven years of prior experience
- Annually purchasing $5 Million in raw materials
Travel
This position requires minimal to no travel
Computer Skills
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access
- Demonstrated proficiency using EPICOR ERP or similar systems
Other Requirements
- Negotiating skills
- Organizational skills for efficient office control
- Ability to communicate professionally with people at all levels of the organization and external contacts
- Strong decision-making skills
- Knowledge of purchasing steel, OSB and foam
Other Skills
- To develop a purchasing system that smooths out the flow of material through production by receipt
- Develop purchasing strategy by commodities for each division
- Reduce lead times through creative purchasing methods
- Provide cost reductions and rebate program in purchased material and freight
- Develop a plan to reduce inventory and methods to better track inventory of raw material and finished goods in conjunction with the Operations Managers for Weld and Lamination
- Fulfill requests for quotes in a timely manner for all aspects of Porter Corp.
- Keep management team informed of financial trends and new product development
