Job Title: Foundation Relations Associate (Fundraising)

Department: Development Status: Full-Time (with Benefits) Salary: $60K-$70K

Building Bridges Across the River (Building Bridges) provides residents East of the Anacostia River access to the best-in-class facilities, programs, and partnerships in arts and culture, economic opportunity, education, recreation, health, and well-being. Building Bridges Across the River (Building Bridges) envisions a future in which the residents East of the Anacostia River experience vital, thriving communities characterized by social, cultural, economic, and racial equity. In order to combat past and current structural inequities, Building Bridges develops and manages facilities and programs in Wards 7 and 8 including the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC), THEARC Farm, THEARC Theater, 11th Street Bridge Park, and Skyland Workforce Center. In 2005, Building Bridges' first facility was THEARC at 110,000 square feet and since then, has grown to 203,000 square feet, representing the largest social service, multisector, nonprofit collaboration in the country.

Led by President, Rahsaan Bernard, and championed by a high-profile, engaged Board of Directors, building Bridges is well-positioned to continue its efforts to build bridges of opportunity and community.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Foundation Relations Associate serves the development needs of Building Bridges Across the River. This position writes grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government (local and federal), completes grant reports and deliverables as well as seeks new funding opportunities ensuring annual fundraising goals are met. The Foundation Relations Associate works closely with the Development, Communications, and Program teams.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESGrant Writing & Reporting:
  • Work with senior members of the Development team to write compelling grant proposals, renewals, reports, and letters of inquiry for programming and general operating expenses
  • Collaborate with program staff and finance staff to develop budgets
  • Track progress against fundraising goals/deadlines
  • Research and pursue new funding prospects
  • Monitor grant-supported projects for compliance with regulations and adherence to requirements. Communicate potential problems and risks to relevant staff and as needed, recommend and/or assist in implementing corrective actions.
  • Partner with the Finance team to develop and review grant application budgets, monitor activities, submit financial reports, and support other grant-related financial activities.
Prospecting & Research
  • Manage funding database and prospecting lists
  • Complete wealth scans on potential prospects
  • Work with executive leadership to maintain relationships with donors to communicate progress of programs and explore funding opportunities
  • Manage cultivation events including invitations, RSVPs, and program logistics
Additional Duties & Responsibilities
  • Represent Building Bridges and 11th Street Bridge Park through participation in community outreach and have the ability to speak knowledgeably about our work
  • Clearly communicate the mission, goals, and activities of Building Bridges Across the River to potential and current participants, supporters, and allies
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • One to three years of grant writing/reporting experience
  • Strong knowledge and experience with funding databases
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent organizational, planning, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents and instructions
  • Ability to work collaboratively across organizations and program areas
  • Ability to work well with people who have diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and working styles
  • Ability to understand, analyze, and create project budgets
  • Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines and work independently
  • Demonstrated high standards of ethics and integrity
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of wealth screening platforms (i.e. iWave)
  • Prospect research, project management, and presentation skills
  • Deep knowledge of or experience working in DC’s Ward 8

Salary & Benefits:

This is a full-time position with a starting salary of $60,000-$70,000. Benefits include PTO, Holiday Pay, Medical, Dental, Vision, and the ability to participate in the 401(K) Plan. Building Bridges is an equal-opportunity employer.
