Destination DC (DDC), the official convention and tourism corporation for our nation's capital, is looking for a dynamic professional who is passionate about Washington, DC and the travel industry to join our organization's Convention Services Department.

Position Summary

Destination DC (DDC) is hiring event staff (RedCoats) to join the Convention Services Team within our Convention Services Department. If you are friendly, love to represent DC, the city you love, then consider joining our team. We are looking for you to bring your interpersonal skills and inviting personality to help clients host their meetings in the metropolitan Washington, DC area at the Convention Center and various hotels throughout the year.

In this position, you will be part-time/on-call and willing to work a variety of jobs that range from registration assistance to bag stuffing. You will work on an on call basis with no guaranteed number of days or hours. You may be asked to work between the hours of 5:30AM and 10:00PM, based on your availability. Periodically, some clients may require extended hours all of which we will accommodate.

You will work variety of duties, which include the following ( but not limited to ):
  • Registration Typist/Cashier (works to collect fees and input attendee information in client's computer system. This may involve more complicated onsite registration of exhibitors and attendees.)
  • Registration Non-typing Clerk (works to disseminate materials, badges, and information regarding the meeting to attendees and/or exhibitors).
  • Room Monitor (scan badges, collect tickets, hand out and/or collect questionnaires and literature during meeting sessions).
  • Information Clerk (works an information booth in order to assist people with locating various areas and locations in the convention center or hotel. A broad knowledge of the DC/MD/VA area is a must).
  • Stuffing (must be able to lift up to 20 pounds to fulfill a client's needs and stand for long periods of time. May collate materials to be distributed to attendees during a meeting. At times this may include inserting materials into binders, folders, or bags).

What You Bring: Experience, Competencies & Education
  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Bilingual ability is a plus
  3. Positive attitude, with a willingness to provide friendly service
  4. Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills
  5. Strong initiative and work ethic
  6. Able to perform various duties on site, including standing for long periods of time
  7. Demonstrated knowledge and usage of computer applications and payroll systems, i.e. Microsoft Office, Paycom, Internet Explorer
  8. Have a basic knowledge of the Washington DC area
