Magazine Editor/Reporter

National publishing company in the Boulder, Colorado area is seeking to immediately hire an experienced, self-starting, detail-oriented magazine editor with a minimum of 10 years of experience leading a multi-million dollar industry/trade magazine, Must have a minimum of 10 years of editorial management experience with an additional three years of business writing experience specifically for a printed publication. This role helps oversee all aspects of planning and managing the editorial operations of our editorial team as well as writes up to two full feature business articles of 1,500 words or more each month.

We are seeking a driven editorial professional with vision and who leads by example with an impeccable work ethic. Must have meticulous copy editing skills paired with extensive experience with content development planning for a niche audience.

Responsibilities include:

• Help plan monthly and annual editorial content for a specific, narrow business reader demographic.
• Coach and supervise business writers, editors and photographers, hold subordinates accountable and provide employee performance evaluations.
• Research feature story topics to determine reader relevance and story topic scope.
• Quickly perform intensive proofreading/copy editing/final editing of feature stories under strict deadlines and provide comprehensive print-ready content for the layout/design team.
• Coordinate editorial staff meetings and training to ensure company's best practices and policies are adhered to.
• Collaborate with other departments to meet magazine and newspaper production deadlines.
• Attend annual trade shows and industry events, build relationships with key industry leaders and research industry-specific trends and issues of interest to readers.
• Write two or more feature stories per month for the publication in Associated Press Style for our niche business audience.

The right candidate will have extensive experience combining the creativeness of a writer, the expertise of a grammarian copy editor, the astute analytical precision of an editor, coupled with the vision, multi-tasking and leadership of a manager.

• IMPECCABLE grammar and spelling, with an intuitive skill at ensuring story construction is written professionally, is interesting, unbiased, and according to Associated Press Style is essential for this position. The editor's duties include heavy editing/copy-editing, therefore the ability to ensure error-free prose is vital.
• The publication’s readers are a niche audience and the ability to research and identify editorial content specifically targeting the audience’s entrepreneurial, industry-specific interests is essential.
• Duties in this position also occasionally include writing business features to provide insight on working best practices for sophisticated business owners, to help them effectively and efficiently manage their business and be profitable.

This is an on-site position with no telecommuting. Travel is required 6 to 8 times per year to various trade/business events. Working hours vary from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. depending on deadlines and staff needs. Salary range is 70,000 to 80,000 DOE.
