Nationwide TI Services (NIS) is seeking a Senior Data Scientist for a potential opportunity to support complex and scalable data analytic service and data science projects that provide business intelligence, analysis, and dashboard reporting to our customer's mission.
The Senior Data Scientist will work with stakeholders to leverage data to drive business value. In addition, they are responsible for mining and analyzing data to drive efficiency and optimization, developing custom data models and algorithms, and developing processes and tools to monitor production systems and data accuracy.

Nationwide TI Services (NIS) is seeking a Senior Data Scientist for a potential opportunity to support complex and scalable data analytic service and data science projects that provide business intelligence, analysis, and dashboard reporting to our customer's mission.
The Senior Data Scientist will work with stakeholders to leverage data to drive business value. In addition, they are responsible for mining and analyzing data to drive efficiency and optimization, developing custom data models and algorithms, and developing processes and tools to monitor production systems and data accuracy.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong background in mathematics, statistics, and computer science with an emphasis on application to business problems.
- Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and principles in both theoretical and applied settings, including regression analysis, time series, probabilistic/Bayesian models, supervised learning, and unsupervised learning (clustering, dimensionality reduction).
- Excellent programming skills (Python and/or R), with a focus on advanced analytics, data science, and machine learning.
- Ability to incorporate third party solutions or build custom data science algorithms from scratch.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze issues, identify causes, and recommend solutions.
- Research oriented with the ability to work independently.
- Data Scientist SME who can advise the customer on best practices and approaches to get value out of their data assets.
- BA or BS degree a quantitative field, such as computer science, engineering, physics, statistics, or applied mathematics.
- Proficiency in data wrangling and handling imperfection and heterogenous data input sources.
- Experience developing best practices on designing components of the data model for a functional area of a project.
- Soft skills including but not limited to excellent problem-solving aptitude, detail orientation, analytical mind, and great business sense.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience using COTS (Microsoft Power BI, Tableau) or library-based (D3, Chart, Plotly, React-vis, Rechart) frameworks for Data Visualization and Business Intelligence.
- Experience with developing solutions on cloud computing services (e.g., Amazon Web Services [AWS], Microsoft Azure).
- Experience working with big data tools (Spark/PySpark, MapReduce) and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and/or NoSQL on distributed platforms (e.g., HBase, Cassandra).
- Strong Excel, analytical and data management skills; including VBA and SQL experience.
- A demonstrated portfolio of projects and publications (GitHub, industry papers).
- The ability to develop and deploy the pipelines and platforms that make data meaningful.
- Follow the analytical requirements and support Chief Data Officer's methodologies to leverage data and analytical models to drive business value.
- Present ideas and recommendations on data handling and data parsing technologies to management.
- Collaborate with and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support Knowledge of ETL processes using SQL and/or other analytical tools such as Azure Analytics and Synapse Analytics as well as Microsoft Purview, to efficiently import structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data from new and/or dynamic data sources, ensuring data validity, reliability, data governing, and availability to users.
