This position is for current students pursuing a B.S. degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related degree; prior internship experience helpful but not required; Will also consider a Junior or Senior in High School with a desire to enter the Construction Industry.


Construction Interns at TMG work directly for the Project Management team and support all phases of the day-to-day activities that are required to deliver a wide variety of construction projects. The Construction Intern role is a developmental position in which Interns are provided an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the construction process and apply the knowledge that they are learning in their college courses.


Scope of Construction Intern Position

Assist and support all aspects of project management, and field operations where necessary, for multiple small projects or large projects. Support the project management team by assisting in the processing of shop drawings, the workflow of RFI's, document control, change management, outsourcing, estimating, scheduling, and other related activities.


Construction Intern Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager, Superintendent, or other management roles in the construction process throughout all phases of the life-cycle of a project to include estimating, negotiation, contracting, buyout, construction administration, and closeout of individual projects and/or task order projects at large;
  • Assist in the creation, updating, and maintenance of a variety of project controls that track the status of individual projects or task orders, changes to projects or task orders, RFI, shop drawings and submittals, matters involving quality controls, safety, financial performance, close-out and other aspects of the project(s) or task order(s);
  • Work with subject matter experts to assist in the creation, review, and processing of shop drawings and other submittals that are required to document the construction process;
  • Support the change management process, by learning how to update logs, route source documents to vendors, obtain pricing, develop estimates and proposals, write change orders, and other related activities;
  • Support the estimating process by learning how to perform quantity surveys utilizing digitizers, 3D modeling software, and paper-based processes that obtain and summarize the scope and quantities of work;
  • Participate in and become familiar with the process of establishing, monitoring, communicating, and maintaining project schedules utilized by contemporary scheduling software;
  • Develop an understanding of how to maintain and require compliance with all contract terms and legal requirements that govern the project to prevent rework and delays;
  • Experience the process and activities involved in the successful closeout of projects to ensure timely completion.

Minimum Qualifications

    • Current student pursuing a B.S. degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related degree; prior internship experience helpful but not required;
    • Solid understanding/proficiency with spreadsheets, Email, and other software used in the construction industry;
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks in an environment driven by deadlines;
    • Strong organizational and time management skills;
    • Ability to work in a team environment, possess a positive can-do attitude and customer focus;
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
