Job Summary

The Loan Review Officer is responsible for performing a variety of loan review activities which aid in the evaluation of Northwest's commercial loan portfolio including collecting loan and information system data, analyzing documentation and financial data, and establishing account risk ratings. The Loan Review Officer will be responsible for providing the Loan Review Manager with objective evaluations of the overall credit quality of the Bank as included from time-to-time compliance with policies and procedures and other portfolio trends including geographic concentrations, climate risk and emerging credit risks.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure document and data integrity
  • Identify and resolve problems/issues
  • Prepare various loan reports
  • Report loan related exceptions
  • Recommend opportunities for improvements to review process
  • Assist with Classified Assets preparation for Credit Committee
  • Recommend loans reviewed for collateral reevaluation
  • Recommend loans reviewed for non-accrual status
  • Identify potentially impaired loans and "troubled debt restructurings"
  • Detect common themes & emerging risks
  • Continue professional education
  • Review sampled commercial loan relationships
  • Gather and analyze loan related financial information
  • Identify and record exceptions
  • Identify early signs of loan problems
  • Analyze financial performance of Obligor
  • Formulate credit risk level
  • Compile and present loan review reports
  • Present information clearly
  • Prepare loan review finds report
  • Perform annual credit quality reviews for relationships over $1,000,000
  • Confirm or amend risk rating as appropriate
  • Complete/update Loan Review Summaries for relationships over $1,000,000
  • Facilitate completion of quarterly credit reports
  • Conduct pre-reviews of all credits be presented to Regional/SL Committees
  • Produce reports and statistics as required
  • Communicate with the lending staff and identifying problems as appropriate
  • Recommend improvements to procedures/process internal controls
  • Develop customer service levels
  • Maximize technology tools available
  • Minimize departmental non-payroll costs
  • Execute loan review strategy as defined by Loan Review Manager
  • Perform target loan reviews based on emerging risk factors
  • Facilitate monthly reporting of progress and emerging risk factors
  • Evaluate effectiveness of credit policies and procedures, identify weaknesses, provide suggestions for strengthening
  • Be a resource for Credit Administration, Commercial Lending, Loan Servicing, Line of Business Managers, Compliance, and Internal Audit
  • Ensure compliance with Northwest's policies and procedures, and Federal/State regulations
  • Navigate Microsoft Office Software, computer applications, and software specific to the department to maximize technology tools and gain efficiency
  • Work as part of a team

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting / Business preferred
  • 5+ years' experience in credit analysis, credit/loan review or commercial lending required
  • Ability to apply advanced financial analysis techniques required
