Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We're Looking For:

If you are passionate about space and deploying disruptive space technology, then you will be excited about the Principal Network Engineer II opening with Iridium for a Space Development Agency (SDA) project. As a Principal Network Engineer II, you'll be responsible for working with senior management to establish strategic plans and objectives as it relates to the design, deployment, integration, and management of Juniper hardware in tightly controlled areas that support several Mission critical environments. You will be responsible for leading multiple activities and projects, including those with cross-functional teams to include deployment of Juniper hardware as well as various other monitoring and scanning tools necessary to ensure a fault-tolerant, reliable, and scalable infrastructure across the Iridium's Mission and Commercial networks. In this role, you will also work independently to configure and maintain network infrastructure devices and Local and Wide Area Networks contributing to the overall success of the Commercial, Mission & Test, and remote Teleport networks.

This position requires an active/current Top Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a Top Secret Security Clearance (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

What You'll Do:

    Be responsible for designing and deploying scalable network devices, including automated route distribution methods using frameworks such as NetConf Yang and Ansible, on MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) and IP (Internet Protocol) networks
  • Craft solutions to enable team members to assist in problems and apply consistent solutions across different environments and teams
  • Collaborate with governmental agencies and technical affiliates to identify and address design limitations in the implementation of operational network systems
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day operations of all Network Infrastructure within a small highly controlled environment, not connected to other systems
  • Play a key role in providing technical assistance to Support-team related to network traffic congestion, latency issues, link outages, and System performance problems
  • Deliver Maintenance and Operations of Mission Critical Network Infrastructure systems to support Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks across multiple sites
  • Work independently to perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of networking and security hardware, and operating systems and review work of junior team members
  • Maintain documentation, audit logs, and adhere to Configuration Management rules required to meet compliance
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the DevOps and network industries, technologies, and best practices and transform research to support direction and decision making
  • Provide real time troubleshooting and problem resolution for escalated issues as required
Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field, OR equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • Must have CompTIA Security+ or CISSP Certification
  • 12+ years of experience with managing and maintaining Cisco and/or Juniper Routers, Switches, firewalls, and other vendors networking technologies
  • 5+ years' direct experience with the deployment and management of Cisco/Juniper switches and routers
  • 3+ years' experience with any firewall technology; Juniper, Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortigate, Checkpoint
  • Direct experience with Netconf/YANG scripting in an MPLS over IP network
  • Fluent in Visio with the ability to effectively create and present network architecture diagrams as designed, with data flows
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues clearly and confidently, and confidently recognize and adapt to different communication techniques
  • Be a strategic thinker who demonstrates good judgment and decisiveness
  • Be able to analyze a situation or problem and come up with effective solutions
  • Can easily form relationships with executive leadership and encourage cross-functional team building
  • The ability to thrive in a dynamic environment by handling multiple tasks according to deadline and budget limitations
  • Be proactive in finding new and enhanced ways of doing things and sharing your knowledge with others

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Certifications in DevOps/Software such as Cisco Certified DevNet Specialist or Professional and/or Juniper
  • Working knowledge of routing protocols such as Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)
  • Experience working in a Linux environment - RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) preferred

We'll also need you to:

  • Be available to support 24/7 on-call on an as-needed basis
  • Be able to travel up to once every quarter
  • Be a U.S. Citizen

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For meetings in person, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
