Position Summary

A Field Geoscientist's primary duty will be to perform integrated engineering and geological investigations by combining geophysical, geological, and geotechnical data to develop a detailed understanding of site conditions as they relate to subsea engineering issues associated with offshore energy, telecommunications, and education sectors while working in the field (offshore).

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL


* Learning and applying knowledge about oceanographic surveys utilizing various remote geophysical sensors (conventional towed, unmanned vehicles (AUV/ASV), ROV, 2DHR, UHRS, and 3D seismic sources) collecting multibeam bathymetry, multibeam backscatter, side scan sonar, magnetometer, subbottom profiler, and 2D/3D seismic data.
* Must possess a strong understanding of geologic principals as they relate to marine geohazards within dynamic seafloor topography, including the identification of features such as mass wasting events, faulting, sediment variations, subsurface stratigraphy, gas discharge, expulsion events, carbonate outcroppings, and deepwater benthic communities.
* Learning to perform detailed geohazard interpretative analysis utilizing the following software: QPS Qimera, QPS Fledermaus, Chesapeake SonarWiz, IHS Kingdom Suite, Global Mapper, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS.
* Developing experience with offshore laboratory geotechnical sediment testing and analysis, including sediment shear strength (undisturbed, residual, remolded), water content, specific density, relative carbonate, and cone penetrometer testing (T-Bar/CPT).
* Developing the ability to provide quality control and precise geohazard/risk analysis of geophysical data, including integration of various/multiple sensor data sets, preparation of reports including geohazard assessments, mapping requirements, and final presentation delivery to client.
* Learning to create preliminary and final reports according to project specifications, including mobilization reports, operation reports, geohazard analysis, pipeline inspection reports, flowline engineering analysis, wellsite assessments including top-hole prognosis, benthic habitat studies, geotechnical analysis, and integrated geologic and geophysical assessments.
* Learning to coordinate project scope requirements between clients and project managers and ensure that scheduled deliverables adhere to deadlines.
* Basic understanding of GPS and motion reference positioning systems, calibration techniques and data processing.
* Learning to prepare preliminary and/or final geohazard assessments.

NON-ESSENTIAL

* Understanding of AUV technical operations
* All other duties assigned

Qualifications

REQUIRED

* Bachelor's degree in Geoscience Field or Other Oceanographic Science field of study Required.
* 0 - three (3) years' experience in the Survey or Geoscience industry as a Geoscience Professional.
* Ability to work long hours (12-hour shifts) in the field, sometimes under preassure, and always within deadlines.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office
* Must have or be able to obtain TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
* Must have or be able to obtain a COVID Vaccination
* Must be able to obtain a valid Passport and any other regionally mandated offshore work requirement documents as appropriate.
* Current security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.

DESIRED

* Master's degree in in Geoscience Field or Other Oceanographic Science field of study preferred.
* Experience with AutoCAD and/or GIS a plus.
* Familiarity or proficiency with software packages SMT Kingdom, SonarWiz, QPS Fledermaus, GlobalMapper, and ArcGIS is highly desirable.

Additional Information

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is considered OFFSHORE with some ONSHORE work which is characterized as follows:

* Outdoors and indoors, day and night, as well as over/near water.
* Requires working on or near moving and vibrating equipment.
* Frequently the humidity is above 90%, noise is over 85db and the light is intense/glare.
* Potential exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.
* Constant exposure to airborne dust, fumes and gases.
* Work surface is stable, height is elevated.
