The pay for this position ranges from $106,000 - $125,000.

FuelCell Energy, Inc. has an opening for a Senior Research Engineer.

Job Duties:

  • Develop and utilize mathematical models to aid in design of fuel cell components and fuel-cell based systems.
  • Implement models, using programming skills, into computerized solvers. Develop parameter optimization tools to fit models to testing data.
  • Review peer-reviewed literature and other credible sources to develop fuel cell performance models.
  • Develop Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models of fuel cell stacks, modules, and related equipment.
  • Develop and refine user-defined programs to simulate detailed electrochemical performance of the fuel cell in conjunction with commercially-available CFD tools. Compile CFD results into reports and presentations.
  • Work with design team to develop improved fuel cell and component designs based on CFD results.
  • Review CFD models and results created by others. Develop Heat and Material Balances (H&MBs), create and/or update Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), develop and document control strategies, and participate in Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP) reviews.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate designs/results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with writing project proposals.
  • This position requires 5-10% domestic travel.
  • This position is 100% remote; may work from home.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess at least a PhD or its equivalent in Chemical Engineering or a related field and at least 1 years of experience as an Electrochemical Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Research Engineer or a related role. In the alternative, at least a master's degree or its equivalent in Chemical Engineering or a related field and at least 4 years of experience as an Electrochemical Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Research Engineer or a related role would be acceptable.
  • At least 1 year of experience with CFD modelling of electrochemical, thermal/fluid, or combustion processes.
  • At least 1 year of experience implementing User-Defined Functions (UDFs) within the Fluent framework.
  • At least 1 year of experience programming using C, C++, Fortran, VBA, or other codes
  • At least 1 year of experience developing mathematical models to solve complex engineering problems.
