Inova Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, VA is looking for a Mental Health Technician 2 to join our team supporting our Behavioral Health Unit. This role is full-time and will work 3 12-hour night shifts/week and will direct care to patients demonstrating a respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines while serving as a unit preceptor for new Mental Health Technicians.

Responsibilities

• Assists unit leadership with oversight of the unit's Mental Health Technician education needs/compliance.
• Collaborates with the Registered Nurse and healthcare team to advocate for patients' clinical, emotional, ethical, spiritual and cultural needs.
• Provides individualized patient support for activities of daily living including bathing, feeding, bed making and measurement of vital signs and intake/output.
• Provides information to patients, families and visitors which may include orients patients to the unit/program, explains rationale for rules or restrictions and provides printed information.
• Serves as a resource and unit preceptor for all new Mental Health Technicians. Works with the unit leadership to ensure Mental Health Technicians have current competencies and skills to perform their work.

Requirements:

• A minimum of 2 (two) years of experience as a psychiatric technician at another facility; or a Mental Health Technician 1 or Clinical Technician 1 at Inova Health System is required.
• Minimum of High School Diploma or GED
• BLS Certification by the American Heart Association upon hire
