Our Parks, Golf, and Hospitality Department is currently looking for an experienced Golf Course Equipment Specialist. This role will be providing support for the golf course to ensure daily operation and maintenance of equipment.

Responsible for performing comprehensive preventative maintenance and repairs of golf course equipment for golf courses. Maintains a maintenance shop environment and ensures safe and environmentally compliant operations. Trains staff in proper and safe equipment operation.

Job Functions / Scope of Authority

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs all functions involved in preventative maintenance program, including maintaining records on preventative maintenance in accordance with factory recommendations and assessing and performing preventative maintenance on golf course maintenance equipment.

  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled repair work on a variety of light to medium specialized golf course equipment. May occasionally repair heavy equipment.

  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs gas/diesel, electric and hydraulic systems using a variety of hand tools, power tools and test devices.

  • Spot checks equipment for performance and makes emergency repairs to equipment on the golf course.

  • Keeps and maintains complete and accurate records for all equipment maintenance and repair.

  • Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work. Communicates needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the golf course operations manager or Golf Course Superintendent

  • Requires strong knowledge in all areas of troubleshooting golf maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses.

  • May require specialized training or certification related to maintenance of equipment.

  • Maintains the shop environment, tools and equipment.

  • Prepares golf maintenance equipment for use and ensures safety of golfers and employees by providing equipment that is in safe working order.

  • Manages inventory cost control system, assuring adequate repair parts in inventory. Purchases repair parts and maintenance supplies. Responsible for staying within budget in completing assigned job duties.

  • Makes recommendations for equipment repair, maintenance budgets, and for the purchase of new equipment.

  • Inspects mowing quality of cut and makes necessary daily adjustments.

  • Grinds, sharpens and adjusts cutting units and blades on specialized equipment according to OEM specifications

  • Welds and fabricates tailor-made items unique to a specific need or job.

  • Monitors fuel purchases, inventories and usage records.

  • Properly disposes of contaminated fuel, waste oil, oil filters and used batteries in compliance with the City of Arvada runoff control plan.

  • Performs duties associated with the city's spill prevention control and countermeasures plan and completes state mandated forms and reports.

  • Acts as lead worker to temporary golf maintenance mechanic staff.

  • May provide assistance to manager and lead or assign tasks to seasonal workers and contractors as needed.

  • Responds to public inquiries and provides information in a friendly and courteous manner.

  • Must be available to work overtime, weekends, holidays and early morning hours as assigned.

  • Attends trainings, seminars, and meetings as required.

  • Acts as manager-on-duty in the absence of the lead worker or manager.

  • Demonstrates a respectful attitude towards customers and coworkers that promotes teamwork, open communication, and effective customer service.

  • Acts with the customer in mind, responds to requests promptly and provides effective services or solutions for customers.

  • Exercises appropriate level of initiative and judgment to make decisions within the scope of assigned authority.

  • Performs on course duties and course preparation as needed for daily play


ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Solid knowledge and experience in golf course maintenance including horticultural practices, landscapes, construction, pesticides and irrigation system maintenance.

  • Strong manual dexterity skills to operate tools, equipment, and machinery.

  • Ability to inspect, repair and maintain irrigation and pumping systems, turf, related equipment and golf amenities.

  • Ability to operate large and small equipment including but not limited to mowers, snow plows, tractors, loaders as required.

  • Ability to inspect equipment and tools for safety.

  • Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.


OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs building maintenance and snow removal as necessary.

  • Other duties as required.

SCOPE OF AUTHORITY:

Receives general supervision under direction of the manager of golf course operations. May receive guidance from the Golf Course Superintendent. Plans and prioritizes own daily work activities and tasks. Defined procedures cover most duties. Expected to exercise initiative and judgment to handle different and specialized situations within the scope of assigned authority. Establishes own procedures for maintaining and repairing equipment.


Financial Accountability:

Makes recommendations to supervisor for budget allocations. Approves expenditures up to $2,000, monitors accounts payable for equipment maintenance and repair to meet budget objectives.


Working Environment / Qualifications

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

The work environment/physical activities described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.

Work is primarily performed in a repair garage and an outdoor environment with low to high noise levels. Physical effort and activities include: kneeling, squatting, crawling, exposure to extreme heat, cold, exhaust fumes, inhalation of fine metal particles, excessive noise, exposure to cleaners, chemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides; confined spaces, trip hazards, exposure to welding gases. Requires strenuous physical effort with heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 80 pounds frequently. Risk of being hit by errant golf balls while at work is constant.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE):

Requires a high school diploma or GED, plus two (2) years golf course maintenance experience and three (3) years' experience in troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of golf course equipment. Technical school and / or factory training certifications related to power plant, electrical, and hydraulic systems and specialized sharpening equipment is highly desirable. Valid Colorado driver license required. Motor vehicle records check required.
