Security Supervisor for DOT

Objective

This position is under the direct supervision of the Operation Manager. Security Supervisors are responsible for overseeing unarmed Special Police Officers (SPO). Together, they are responsible for the protection, safeguarding and security of assets, personnel, customers and visitors to the federal facility. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Essential functions

Be able to read and understand the English language to effectively carry out applied printed rules, detailed orders, instructions, and training materials. Have a command of both the written and spoken English language to properly and clearly communicate in person or via electronic devices (telephone and radio) with co-workers and the general public.The ability to maintain a professional, tactful and courteous demeanor under stressful situations security personnel routinely encounter. Be able to compose in the English language precise short paragraphs, written reports, and other reports as necessary.

Job Duties

  • Manages and supervises SPO's and MSP personnel deployed on the concerned shift; organizes shifts in a detailed planning roster and manages the presence files on a daily basis;
  • Ensures that the SPO's posts are manned and that the SPO's are fit for duty, that they are correctly uniformed and that their equipment is complete and serviceable;
  • Trains the SPO's on the proper usage of all equipment provided to them
  • Assists in the coaching and training of SPO's and mobile security patrol (MSP) personnel, as well as in the implementation of security guard procedures and their follow-up;
  • Maintains the incident logbook and reports to the SOR/AMRC;
  • Contributes to the operation of the Embassy's radio network base station;
  • Contributes to the operation of various electronic security installations and equipment in protected premises, such as (but not limited to) CCTV system, public address (PA) system, resident intruder alarm system (IAS) with integrated smoke detectors, transmitters and panic button systems, radio communication equipment, metal detectors, x-ray screening equipment, vehicle search equipment, guard monitoring systems, etc.;
  • Provides reports and records of any unusual activity inside, or in the immediate vicinity of protected premises;
  • Ensures access control of all personnel and visitors, the reception and registration of all persons entering the premises in a courteous and service-oriented manner;
  • Ensures identification badge management (i.e. for visitors) and patrols of the protected premises;
  • Follows instructions as detailed in DOTs Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and in the security company's Standard Operating Procedures for Guard Shift Leaders;
  • Responds to and comply with specific direct instructions given by the Head of DOT, or other DOT security actors.

QUALIFCATIONS

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Proficient in English
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Experience in overseeing a guard force of at least 10 people
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a security-relevant position (armed forces, law enforcement services, private security company)
  • Must be fully capable of performing duties requiring moderate to arduous physical exertion and must be fully capable of self-defense, tactical exercises and weaponless defense.
  • Shall be proficient with Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, Power-Point) in order to draft reports, prepare presentations, etc.
  • District of Columbia certification as an unarmed Special Police Officer.

Additional Qualifications:

The applicant is required to submit to pre-employment medical exam and drug screening.

The applicant must be able to pass an NLIC / State / Local Background check and Credit check (as applicable).
