Departmental Overview: Hatch Show Print was founded in 1879, when brothers Charles R. and Herbert H. Hatch, from Wisconsin, opened a small shop near the Courthouse in Nashville. For much of the twentieth century, vibrant Hatch posters served as a leading advertising medium for southern entertainment, and included work for members of the Grand Ole Opry, such as Bill Monroe, Minnie Pearl, and Ernest Tubb, and for rock & roll icons such as Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry. Thousands of posters and billboard-size advertisements were printed for traveling vaudeville and minstrel shows, circuses, and carnivals barnstorming across the country. Contemporary music clients range from Wilco to Willie Nelson, and recent design clients include such brands as Fossil, Taschen, Abingdon Press, the National Football League, and the U.S. Postal Service. Every job starts with letterpress printing.

This heritage is celebrated by the shop's staff of designer-printers, who use the same wood and metal type the shop has had for over five generations, to continue the business of designing and printing posters, and a team of educators and tour guides who introduce visitors and members of the community of all ages to the history of Hatch Show Print and the process of letterpress printing, with tours, workshops, and other programs.

Job Overview: This position reports to the Hatch Show Print Tour and Programs Manager and is a non-exempt, hourly position. This position is responsible to provide in-depth group tours of Hatch Show Print, demonstrate letterpress printing, and assist individuals in printing a souvenir print. Drawing upon provided training and scripts, the Hatch Show Print Tour Associate will offer engaging and enlightening tours and hands-on opportunities for the public and student groups.

In both the Interior classroom, office environment and occasional outdoor venues, the person in this position will be responsible for group tours and educational programing.
