Job Description

Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Geothermal Energy and Subsurface Systems Group (GESS) in the Power and Energy Systems Department seeks a candidate to lead research in the geochemistry and production of critical minerals. As a member of the GESS you will have access to world-class collaborators and computing resources of INL's Center for Collaborative Computing and the laboratory facilities of the multi-institutional Center for Advanced Energy Studies. This team works a hybrid 9×80 schedule with alternating Fridays off. You will have some travel, fieldwork, and may include occasional work outside normal office hours. Responsibilities Include: Lead the design and execution of research related to critical mineral ore deposits. Identify and analyze data from research experiments, field observations, scientific literature, and numerical models. Contribute to the development of program plans and identify concepts for new business in critical minerals research and development. Prepare peer-reviewed and conference publications, technical reports, and proposals for internally and externally funded work. Lead programmatic and technical presentations to sponsors and peers at conferences, symposia, and national technical meetings. Interface and develop relationships with federal government sponsors, other national laboratories, and industry to expand INL's critical minerals research portfolio. Maintain currency in knowledge, techniques, and capabilities commensurate with technology advancement in relevant fields.Qualifications: Minimum Requirements: PHD+ 2 years of experience or MS + 3 years of experience in ore deposit geochemistry or similar field. Familiarity or experience with critical mineral deposits and mining challenges. Expertise employing geochemical modeling codes - e.g., Geochemists Workbench, TOUGH, MOOSE. Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. Relevant research accomplishments documented by publications in scientific literature. Preferred Experience: Experience incorporating laboratory-generated data into real-world applications and analyses Experience writing competitive research proposals. Demonstrated ability to organize research activities and build multi-disciplinary research teams. Participant in field-scale geoscience research projects. Strong customer interaction and presentation skills.
