Overview:
RMI is seeking a Communications and Marketing Lead to design and execute communications plans that accelerate the development, funding and market scaling of climate technology to avoid and remove emissions in line with a safer climate future. They will create and make use of diverse digital channels and media to advance RMI's goals by engaging key audiences and stakeholders.
RMI's climate tech accelerator program, Third Derivative, unites and aligns committed investors, corporations, philanthropists, and market and policy experts with the world's most promising climate tech startups to bridge finance and resource gaps and increase speed to market. Our flexible and highly curated accelerator program enables startups to focus on their unique needs and opportunities. Third Derivative has a dedicated carbon dioxide removal (CDR) startup program, working closely with RMI's Climate Aligned Industries program. As such, this role will frequently work at the intersection of the two programs, helping to shape deliverables that advance collaborative goals. A successful hire will be a strong team player who can work seamlessly across teams and subject areas while creating cohesive narratives for external audiences. The ideal candidate enjoys bringing communications strategies to life by leveraging data, research, and subject matter experts. In addition, the Communications and Marketing Lead will partner with RMI editorial, design, earned and digital media, and web to develop the most effective messages and campaigns.
An ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years of experience in communications, marketing, or journalism, with a passion for storytelling. A strong connection to RMI's mission and expertise in climate tech is highly desired. This position reports directly to the Strategic Communications Manager for Third Derivative.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities
Develop marketing campaigns and communications materials from inception to completion, working with editorial, design, earned media, and social media to ensure projects are completed on time and on brand
Execute communications plans and strategies with clear goals, target audiences, and tactics, supporting strategic vision of RMI's climate tech experts and communications team.
Strategize projects with clear goals and target audiences
Build and update media lists and research reporters and Influencers to proactively connect with; develop media briefing materials for experts meetings with journalists
Craft press releases and pitches for reporters
Draft and review op-eds, articles, statements, social media posts, and other forms of thought leadership content for key program leadership and spokespeople
Manage and grow Third Derivative's social media channels and digital presence
Draft copy for RMI and Third Derivative's websites, social media, and email marketing, ensuring consistent messages throughout
Identify and pitch experts for public speaking opportunities
Work with Third Derivative, web, and editorial teams to update and optimize Third Derivative and RMI's webpages and resources
Identify stories that advance climate tech and overall brand goals
Proactively identify and leverage news-making moments, milestones,and impacts to drive awareness and interest in RMI's climate tech solutions among target audiences
Maintain editorial calendars for Third Derivative and RMI's carbon removal work more broadly to keep program teams and RMI's central communications team informed of plans for internal and external publications, speaking engagements, media pitching, and social media campaigns
Help develop and report against metrics of successand track activities against outcomes andimpact
Coordinate with Third Derivative's external partner communications teams to ensure reach and impact of projects
Evaluate and provide marketing support for event opportunities in alignment with program teams' strategy framework and goals
Minimum Qualifications
3 to 5 years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or journalism disciplines
Excellent initiative, follow-through, and project management skills
Strong writing, editing, and verbal communications skills, including communicating at different levels of depth (more in-depth for industry audiences; simplified for lay audiences)
Curiosity to learn about innovative climate technologies and passion for storytelling and messaging around complex topics
Experience working on digital campaigns, social media channels, and media outreach
Experience with graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite and Canva), video, Salesforce, and HubSpot is a plus

Location
We are a remote-ready company with team members around the globe. Our beautiful and welcoming offices are available for meetings or focused work, whether you are traveling through or living nearby. Our U.S. offices are in New York City; Washington DC; Oakland, California; Boulder, Colorado, and Basalt, Colorado. This role can be located from anywhere in the continental United States.
We provide you with the essential IT equipment plus a one-time home technology payment and a monthly work from home/commuter allowance to ensure you have a comfortable home office set up and necessary supplies.
We love seeing each other in person! We occasionally gather for shared time together like retreats and learning experiences. Be ready to travel for occasional in-person meetings (and of course, we cover travel costs). Some roles may require more travel, which will be discussed during the hiring process.

Compensation
RMI compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, a new Lead joins at the minimum to mid salary range of $68,092 - $82,536. You would also have an additional 5% annual bonus target.
