Project Controls Manager, Rio Tinto Services Inc., South Jordan, UT:

Develops and implements the project controls processes, including all aspects of planning/scheduling, cost control, change management and supporting functions. Identifies and implements improvement opportunities for streamlining the work process. Applies discipline governance and quality assurance across capital projects. Maintains relationships with key stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation, and improvement. Analyses and reports progress to plan and provide a firm basis for strategic and operational decisions. Manages and develops the team's performance in line with Rio Tinto's company values to achieve objectives. Contribute to the capital projects guidance and protocols in the capital projects framework. Manage a multi-skilled team of cost estimators, cost control and planning engineers and procurement, and contracts personnel in a matrix organization to support the Rio Tinto project manager & study lead in executing their scopes while managing the Project budget & schedule. Promote and adhere to estimating standards and guidelines that meet or exceed Rio Tinto requirements. Work closely with Rio Tinto Engineering, study, project execution teams, and the business unit sponsor to manage, control and communicate study & project progress in terms of schedule, costs and future work. Develops overall estimates, forecasts, execution plans and contract & procurement strategy for the project that interface with the business unit operations. Manage the project & study funding and forecasts together in a timely and cost-efficient manner. Manage the relevant estimating consultants together with the internal team members to ensure that the estimates are adequately resourced, and estimates are developed to a consistently high standard that provides ongoing value to Kennecott and Rio Tinto. Involve internal and external stakeholders in the project controls process and communicate clearly and concisely so that the key issues are identified and progress is made on the project. Prepares and presents the project controls elements to Rio Tinto TEG BED assurance reviewers for both in-flight and milestone reviews. Through a comprehensive understanding of cost, schedule, risks and estimates, identify value-adding opportunities with consideration to: NPV/IRR, Risk, Relevance and potential improvements. Ensure site-specific information is collected and applied in future cost estimates and cash flow forecasts. Monitors and analyzes the performance of existing projects in terms of contracts & procurement commitments, trends, earned value, schedule and cost forecast accuracy. Allocates budget to committed funds and ensures costs and commitments are recorded in assigned code of accounts/WBS on the Rio Tinto SAP ERP system. Maintains a forecast to complete and identify potential cost trends and scope changes and recommend potential mitigations. Analyzes and processes contractor progress payment certificates. Updates, maintains and reports project schedules and contract progress reports, including earned value. Identify report trends on project-critical items. Conducts and chairs routine trend meetings and resulting actions and provide input to Project Monthly reports. Develops procurement and contract strategies and manage the procurement processes.

Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days a week.

Full time employment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and 8 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience in implementing project controls processes in the mining industry; OR Master's degree in Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and 6 years of work experience in implementing project controls processes in the mining industry.

Must have 2 years of experience in each of the following:

  • Facilitating and leading multi-disciplined project control teams;
  • SAP;
  • Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams); and
  • Primavera P6.
