Operator Technician - 3rd Shift

Essential Functions:

Howmet's Houston Extrusions Plant focuses on converting specialty metals into value added extrusions for the aerospace and defense industries. Operations Tech will be assigned to support with production, while adhering to safety and quality requirements. Responsible for all duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Ensures adherence to company safety requirements and federal safety regulations.
• Complies with all EHS rules required for the work environment. Reads work order to locate cutting requirements on stock, to determine dimensions and tolerances, and to determine metal to be cut, type of blade to be used, blade tension, cutting speed, feed rate, table angles, and positions of table stops and guides.
• Operate furnaces with minimal supervision.
• Interpret and control furnace conditions to ensure the product is consistent with customer specifications and meets all quality standards.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Record production data and maintain production logs.
• Lifting, carrying, and push-pulling material in the furnace.
• Inspect furnaces and equipment to locate wear and defects.
• Maintain temperature logs.
• Maintain dimensional accuracy during machining process using precision measuring instruments such as veneer calipers, micrometers and gauges.
• Knowledge of raw materials, handling materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
• Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.
• Ability to follow instructions as indicated for quality and safety requirements.
• Clean an inspect machines, work area and abide by safety protocols.
• Ability to work various shifts that support a 24/7 operation, weekends and overtime as needed.
• Inspects for defects in the material and machine.

Basic qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• A minimum of 3 years' experience of machine operation in a production environment
• This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
• Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred qualifications:

• 1-4 years' Experience in metals manufacturing
• Previous experience operation a vertical band saw
• A minimum of one year of Foundry experience in a production environment
• Must be able to obtain an in-house mobile equipment certification, including use of forklift and boom lift
• Experience with conducting general maintenance on equipment or experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and blueprints.
• Experience using a computer to enter and track data.
• Ability to work a flexible work schedule to include holidays, weekends, and overtime.
• Excellent Communication and Presentation skills (written, verbal and non- verbal), ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
• Must work well in a team environment and commit to continuous improvement.
• Experience with overhead bridge cranes, jib cranes, forklift and side loader.

Physical Demands: The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
