Refrigeration Specialist

POSITION SPECIFICS

Reports To: Refrigeration/Facility Supervisor

FLSA Status: Hourly

ROLE

SUMMARY

Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of ammonia refrigeration, facilities, utility equipment, Air and hot water systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Monitors ammonia refrigeration systems to ensure all components are operating within established set points and parameters.

  • Maintain and follow a plant Process Safety Management program that meets all regulatory requirements.
  • Performs routine maintenance on all mechanical and electrical ammonia refrigeration systems. Completes all required documentation.
  • Responds to system breakdowns and emergency situations with a sense of urgency.
  • Complies with the Developed Mechanical Integrity program.
  • Provides feedback on necessary changes to better align with Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP).
  • Perform housekeeping of various equipment, roof, engine, and mechanical rooms
  • Perform labeling and tagging of systems.
  • Provide assistance and perform, as needed, facility maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in reviewing, red-lining, and updating SOP’s and P&IDs.
  • Practice continuous improvement concepts in all aspects of equipment and facility maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • High school Diploma or GED required.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated success in the maintenance and operation of Ammonia/Industrial Refrigeration and Boiler systems, with solid skills in electrical, mechanical, and plumbing.
  • Completion of vocational or technical school preferred.
  • RETA CARO and/or CIRO certification preferred.
  • RETA Operator I and II certification preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

None.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Intermediate knowledge of ammonia and refrigeration chemistry and operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to work on-call and flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Read equipment manuals and diagrams.

REQUIRED TRAINING

This position requires training on Good Manufacturing Practices critical to the effective implementation of the Food Safety Plan and the maintenance of food safety, quality and process efficiency. Training is also required on how to identify food safety issues such as temperature control, cross-contamination, sanitation and cleanliness of the lines, etc., critical to the effective implementation of the Food Safety Plan and the maintenance of food safety, quality and process efficiency.
