ABOUT THE POSITION

The Senior Program Manager for Casa Joaquin Murrieta leads the residential student program by curating a residential leadership program for first-generation, low-income, students at UC Berkeley to ensure they have successful academic outcomes, community support, and a deep understanding of how to become racial equity advocates for their communities. In coordination with The Greenlining Leadership Academy, this role develops programs that help students cultivate life-long friendships and professional networks and inspires them to fulfill their true potential in serving as advocates for social justice and racial equity.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Lead Casa’s Programming

  • Develops programming that layers intentional community building through a transformative living and learning experience
  • Leads Community Building activities such as facilitating orientation activities and organizing hiking trips, holiday celebrations and socials with other on-campus organizations
  • Help establish community norms/agreements and ground rules to ensure open communication and responsible student conduct
  • Offers guidance on setting priorities for the college experience to prepare students for future professional and academic opportunities
  • Leads professional development workshops on career readiness including Resume Building, Public Speaking, Mock Interviews, Networking & Professional Etiquette
  • Delivers personal development workshops such as Nonviolent Communication, Negotiation Techniques and Conflict Resolution
  • Coordinate workshops led by Academy participants for Casa residents
  • Connects students with academic counselors and valuable on-campus resources
  • Identify opportunities to integrate the work of Greenlining staff into House Meetings
  • Provides workshops on critical public policy issues impacting our communities
  • Select and train leaders within each Casa cohort to serve as Residential Advisors that offer peer-to-peer support and encouragement

Manage Casa’s Operations

  • Ensures residential facilities are well maintained and a desirable living environment for students
  • Oversees the recruitment and selection of up to 38 students
  • Reviews and addresses ADA accommodation requests from student residents
  • Responds to and documents critical incidents and emergency situations
  • Act as a mediator in conflict situations for residents and staff
  • Ensure the residential facility meets the regulatory standards for physical and environmental safety in compliance with the Rental House Safety Program, the Environment Health Licensing Board and the local Fire Code (e.g., Fire Escape, Building Exterior, Sprinkler Systems and Fire Hydrant)
  • Oversees and responds to compliance issues related to the City of Berkeley’s Rent Board and the Small Business Licensing Office
  • Oversee rent collection and follows accounting systems and procedures
  • Coordinate and schedule building repairs and supports capital improvements efforts
  • Supervise food services, catering, maintenance staff and any other consultants
  • Supervise leadership team at Casa Joaquin (assistant manager & house advisors)
  • Implement Casa Joaquin Murrieta, UC Berkeley and Greenlining policies according to the residential contract

Cultivate and Expand Casa’s Network

  • Develop a strong network that extends from the house, to campus, to Greenlining, and beyond
  • Serve as a liaison between the UC Berkeley campus, community resources, and volunteers
  • Build and maintain an alumni database
  • Engage Casa alumni to grow a network, mentor students and support Casa’s fundraising goals
  • Outreach to Berkeley student organizations and other potential applicants
  • Develop housing information and marketing materials for Casa Joaquin for future resident prospects and supporters
  • Create opportunities for Greenlining staff and Casa residents to connect
  • Communicate the impact of the Casa Program for prospective funders and support the program’s fundraising strategy

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in higher education administration and/or public policy analysis including prior management experience in a non-profit setting
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree in public policy and/or educational administration preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to Greenlining’s mission and experience in advancing social justice, equity and inclusion for people of color
  • Proven ability to work with emotional intelligence, navigating individual and team conflicts productively, with empathy and integrity
  • Ability to deliver effective presentations to diverse groups and present complex information in a meaningful way and adjust style and content to each unique audience and circumstance
  • Proven track record of achieving results through influence and collaboration by building coalitions and working with a broad array of constituency groups
  • Excellent research skills with the ability to synthesize, translate, and implement information from multiple sources into a coherent strategy and workable plan
  • Strong project management skills to manage multiple priorities, stakeholders, and workflows
  • Ability to work independently and be both creative and strategic when confronted with complex and multifaceted opportunities and challenges
  • Ability to monitor progress towards goals, track measures of success and report out through project completion
  • Experience using Slack, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite strongly preferred
  • Fundraising experience
  • Experience coaching and managing staff
  • Required to live at Casa Joaquin Murrieta in a private apartment unit
  • This job is demanding, and requires common sense, warmth, humor, and the ability to work independently, responsibly and efficiently

The scope of responsibilities is not limited to those listed above and may change as organizational needs evolve. Specific work plan goals are developed each year to inform performance targets.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary based on experience. Superb benefits including health, vision and dental insurance premiums covered at 100% for employee and dependents as well as Life and Long-Term Disability Insurance. We provide a 5% annual salary match that is immediately vested to your 401(k) retirement plan. Work-life balance is supported with a 35-hour work week and hybrid work schedules. Many other generous paid time off programs including vacation, sick leave, paid parental leave and 14 paid Holidays.


Starting Salary Range: $90,000 to $95,000

Reports To: Senior Director of Leadership Academy
