POSITION SUMMARY

The Adult Education Instructional Specialist will oversee the curriculum, all instructional affairs, and standards and assist the supervisor with properly interpreting and clarifying literacy needs related to specific segments of the Adult Education Program at the state, federal, and local levels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Develops a strategic plan to achieve measurable goals, objectives, and program performance established by the state.
  • Serves as the Lead for all curriculum, content (online and print), and supporting resources.
  • Conducts research on new content, modifications, and Provides recommendations accordingly.
  • Serves as an instructional coach for full/part-time instructors; provides training, feedback, follow-up, and action plans for staff performance improvement. Provides training for general education development (GED)/High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) content, hybrid platform, Blackboard utilization, standard-based lesson planning, and soft skills.
  • Ensures instructional models are standard-based and include foundational and accelerated learning opportunities; develops high school equivalence (HSE) credential-specific instructional plan.
  • Reviews and recommends instructional material, teaching techniques, and the use of different technologies.
  • Ensures the effective use of technology in the classroom and further development of distance learning.
  • Serves as instructional content point of contact; provides explanation and training for new content, resources, and changes related to instruction (teaching and technology) and demonstrates effective utilization.
  • Conducts daily monitoring of Georgia Adult Literacy Information System (GALIS) reports - Enrollment/National Reporting System (NRS), Measurable Skill Gains (MSG), and Attendance.
  • Evaluates and monitors instruction and compliance with policies and procedures, including class observations and data review of MSGs (GALIS); analyzes students' test data (Data Recognition Corporation (DRC)) and routinely collaborates with instructors to ensure quality service is provided by monitoring Student Learning Plans (SLP), referrals, and retention.
  • Conducts monthly class and site visits.
  • Manages post-testing process, procedure, and adherence accordingly.
  • Monitors GED Ready vouchers and utilization.
  • Provides new hire training and provides ongoing support for instructional staff.
  • Co-coordinates recruitment and retention activities.
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours, and as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.

Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use hands to grasp and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head.

Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 15 or more pounds on a frequent basis.

Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors.

Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records. Understand how to manage stress

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

  • Valid driver's license and availability of private transportation or ability to attend off-site meetings

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 year teaching adult education class

  • Ability to effectively develop and deliver content-specific professional learning
