Qualifications
Senior Construction Inspector ($56,056.00 Min - $87,713.60 Max)

  • High School diploma/GED and twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience, to include five (5) years of inspection, in public works, utility construction and inspection, site or land development, construction materials testing, and/or transportation infrastructure construction, maintenance and/or repair; or
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, construction management, project management or related field and eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience, to include four (4) years of inspection, in public works, utility construction and inspection, site or land development, construction materials testing, and/or transportation infrastructure construction, maintenance and/or repair; or
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, construction management, project management or related field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience, to include two (2) years of inspection, in public works, utility construction and inspection, site or land development, construction materials testing, and/or transportation infrastructure construction, maintenance and/or repair.

  • When Assigned to Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) Utilities Administration, and Utilities Collection and Distribution (UCD) : Inspection experience must be in water, wastewater and/or irrigation system construction and/or inspection.

  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and obtain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.
  • FDEP Stormwater, Erosion and Sedimentation Control (or FSA Stormwater Operator 1) obtain within in three (3) months
  • OSHA 10-hr Safety Training obtain within in three (3) months
  • FDOT Intermediate MOT obtain within in six (6) months
  • FDOT Asphalt Paving Level 1 obtain in six (6) months
  • FDOT Earthwork Construction Inspector Level 1 obtain in six (6) months
  • OSHA 30-hr Safety Training obtain in six (6) months
Key Responsibilities
  • Performs specialized, skilled technical work in inspecting and certifying various construction projects.
  • Incumbents are generally assigned to a specific functional area but participate in collaborative efforts with other inspectors to ensure comprehensive coverage for all projects in process.
  • Employees in this class are responsible for verification and quality control through conducting detailed project and work site inspections, reviewing all project data to determine compliance with regulatory practices, and obtaining proper permits where applicable.
  • Position interacts with the public, contractors, city administrators, engineers, other construction inspectors and field personnel to ensure the proper coordination, preparation, performance, and completion of assigned duties.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
