**Description**

OBJECTIVE

Receive cash or credit payment from Customers for merchandise or services purchased from Store or Yard. Provide customers with a shopping atmosphere that is well maintained, clean, organized and safe.

The pay range for this position is $10.50/hr - $14.00/hr depending on experience.

INTENT OF JOB DESCRIPTION AND MODIFICATION

This job description describes the duties and responsibilities, qualification requirements, physical demands, work environment, etc. for this job. Duties may be combined with other jobs or duties from other jobs depending upon operational circumstances. Management reserves the right to add, modify or end any of the duties contained in the job description as future business conditions warrant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following are the essential duties and responsibilities of the Job. Other duties may be assigned. Performance Appraisal (PA) measurements are noted in brackets [___].

1. Verify and count cash in drawer at opening and closing of the day. [PA: Cash and receipts balance on a daily basis.]

2. Operate cash register to compute merchandise tickets showing amount due, make change, cash checks, and issue receipts to customers. Issue refunds or credit as necessary for returned merchandise. [PA: Efficient and accurate input of data on

merchandise purchased and payment received.]

3. Provide quality Customer Service through positive interaction with Customers in person and on the telephone. Assist Customers with questions regarding merchandise characteristics, location in store, pricing and promotions. Record want slips, inventory condition, etc. Refer store credit applications and bad checks to Store Operations Manager. [PA: Customer service provided consistent with Company standards.]

4. Assist in the preparation of the store and product displays for advertised events and promotions. [PA: Successful advertising campaigns and high sales on promotional products are achieved.]

5. Accept returned merchandise by verifying documents and merchandise. Process refunds, credits and exchanges according to Company procedures to assure customer satisfaction and accurate accounting of inventory. Coordinate with receiving/warehouse to restock returned merchandise. [PA: Returned merchandise received correctly.]

6. Maintain a clean store environment including doors, floors, windows, ceilings, restrooms and work stations. Clean and dust products and displays and face the products. Ensure aisles and other areas are clear of obstacles to allow customers to shop easily and safely. [PA: Store appearance maintained in accordance with Company standard.]

7. Attend and participate in all Company sponsored training programs as required. [PA: Satisfactory participation, retention and application of training program subjects.]

8. Perform any other duties, responsibilities or tasks as assigned. [PA: Efficient completion of assigned duty, responsibility or task.]

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other Associates of the organization. Bilingual preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Good interpersonal, communication and Customer Service skills are necessary. Knowledge of building materials (especially hardlines) products is desirable. Ability to operate cash register (computer) equipment and applicable programs is required.
