Safety Apprentice

Description

Great Western Building Systems is seeking a responsible Safety Apprentice to learn Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and EPA guidelines. Great Western Building Systems was founded in 2016 and is quickly becoming a leader in the Pre-Engineered metal building industry.

The ideal candidate for this role is a dedicated professional who is deeply committed to OHS and EPA regulations. This individual should possess a strong desire to actively engage in identifying and minimizing workplace hazards and health risks, while maintaining a vigilant eye for potential regulatory breaches. The primary focus of the Safety Department under this role will be on preventative measures, requiring a conscientious and forward-thinking approach. The candidate must also exhibit strong attention to detail and the ability to respond swiftly and effectively in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to maintain, implement, and develop OHS & EPA policies, procedures, and programs

  • Learn to identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace; conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices, and stop any unsafe acts or processes

  • Assist in new hire orientation training and annual safety training

  • Assist supervisors in immediately investigating all work-related injuries and report findings to the appropriate personnel

  • Ensure that third-party, vendors, or contractor personnel working on company property are in compliance with company policies and safety requirements

  • Monitor, revise, and implement ongoing updates in safety regulations, laws, or

  • reporting requirements

  • Learn to facilitate safety meetings

  • Perform other duties or tasks as needed or assigned to you by the Safety Manager or Senior Management

The work environment is primarily indoors, and will, at times, be exposed to natural weather elements such as heat, cold, sunlight, darkness, wind, rain, lighting, snow, and dust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Qualifications

  • The ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening is required

  • The ability to pass a background check

  • Knowledge of OHS and EPA regulations and procedures

  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements in manufacturing, production, and warehouse environments

  • Knowledge of welding and cutting

  • Outstanding organizational skills

  • Diligent with great attention to detail

  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Experience

  • Knowledge of OHS and OSHA regulations and guidelines preferred

License & Certifications

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Certified or willing to be certified in First Aid, CPR, AED, and Bloodborne pathogens
