Schedule:

This position is full time, Monday through Friday. Hours are generally 8 AM - 4 PM with the ability to flex to provide training and support to residential staff.

Summary:

The Occupational Therapist (OT) is responsible for evaluating and assessing student's function relating to occupational areas such as, but not limited to, sensory integration, cognition, psychosocial, fine motor skills and academics. The OT then develops a plan of care works collaboratively with his/her treatment team to initiate and manage treatment programs for functional outcomes. Occupational therapists use purposeful activity to facilitate a child's active participation in self-maintenance; academic and vocational pursuits; and play or leisure activities that occur in school environments. Using direct and indirect services, as well as assistive technology and environmental modifications, school occupational therapists collaborate with parents, teachers and other educational staff to help implement a child's special education program.

Education:

• Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited Occupational Therapy Program.
• Valid Occupational Therapy license in the state of Wisconsin.
• Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT.
• Current occupational therapist license from the Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing, Occupational Therapy Affiliated Credentialing Board. Current occupational therapist license (812) from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
• Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association, American Red Cross.

Job Duties Include:

• Identification and planning. The occupational therapist evaluates children, interprets evaluation findings as a member of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team, and plans appropriate intervention.
• Intervention. The occupational therapist develops and implements direct and indirect services based on individual evaluation and the IEP. The focus of these services may include but are not limited to a child's: activities of daily living, work and productive activities, play or leisure activities, sensorimotor components of performance, cognitive integration and cognitive components of performance and psychosocial skills and psychological components of performance
• Program administration and management. The occupational therapist participates in the local education agency's comprehensive planning process for the education of children with exceptional educational needs. The occupational therapist works with the director of special education to establish the procedures for implementing the occupational therapy service. The occupational therapist may supervise occupational therapy assistants.
• Community awareness. The occupational therapist provides information for administrators, school personnel, parents, and non-school agencies regarding school occupational therapy.
• Professional growth and ethics. The occupational therapist adheres to the ethical standards of the profession and participates in professional growth activities and continuing education opportunities. The occupational therapist adheres to established rules, regulations and laws, and works cooperatively to accomplish the goals and objectives of the local education agency.
• Conduct appropriate evaluations of children referred for suspected disabilities and prepare written reports of the evaluations conducted and the findings.
  Participate in meetings as a member of the IEP team.
• Provide direct and indirect occupational therapy to children with disabilities in educational environments.
• Collaborate with other school personnel regarding occupational therapy and the children's needs.
• Maintain records of service provided.
  Transfer and position children and equipment with assistance as necessary to provide occupational therapy.
• All other duties as assigned.
