Engineering is seeking CAD/GIS Drafters to maintain a high degree of knowledge in Rights of Way permitting, perform technical and administrative duties related to acceptance, processing, drafting, reviewing and approval of permit drawings in accordance with any Federal, State, County and Local regulations and procedures. May be required to help co-workers via training and/or train new employees to create a productive and team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed drawings in AutoCAD for telecommunication utility projects, including layout, dimensions, and necessary details for various rights of way.
  • Identify and delineate easements within project areas, ensuring accurate representation of utility rights and restrictions on drawings.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to understand project requirements and specifications for telecommunication utility installations and transfer them to the utility permit drawings.
  • Update and revise existing drawings based on changes in design, construction, or regulations, ensuring all modifications are accurately documented.
  • Utilize GIS data and other mapping tools to accurately locate and represent telecommunication utilities within designated rights of way.
  • Conduct thorough quality control checks on drawings to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, project specifications, and company policies.
  • Engage in problem-solving activities to address design issues, spatial conflicts, or construction challenges, proposing practical and efficient solutions.
  • Coordinate with permitting agencies and other stakeholders to gather necessary data for permit applications, ensuring all drawings meet specific criteria and standards for approval.
  • Maintain a well-organized library of project drawings, records, and documentation, ensuring easy access and retrieval for reference and updates according to company requirements.
  • Participate in team and project planning meetings, and training sessions to stay updated on new drafting techniques, software updates, and best practices in telecommunication utility drafting and design.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in CAD or GIS Services, civil engineering technology or related industry required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, architecture, or related discipline preferred.
  • Certification in AutoCAD or similar drafting software from a recognized institution preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with drafting, with a specific focus on utilities and civil engineering projects required.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and other relevant drafting software is required.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications or utility standards, codes, and regulations relevant to the creation of permit drawings required.
  • Knowledge of cable design and basic construction practices of cable systems required.
  • Ability to interpret and convert field notes, engineering sketches, and verbal information into detailed drawing sets is required.
  • Certificate in AutoCAD or similar drafting software from a recognized institution preferred.
  • Experience with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and construction methods related to telecommunications or utilities.
  • Experience in preparing, reviewing, and submitting utility permit applications.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with engineers, project managers, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.


Shift is full-time Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm CST. Must be flexible, and willing and able to work outside normal business hours, as necessary.
